BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC Review (http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/bfg_geforce_7800_gtx_oc/index.shtml)

My review of the BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC card is ready to roll. I really try to bring something unique to all of my reviews and this one is no different. I wrote a tool that you can use to compare various IQ screenshots via just your web browser. Many of you know how to do this with any number of graphics editing apps but there are many people that do not. So, I hope this is of some benefit to some of you.

I concentrated on the F.E.A.R. demo as it is a very stressful game for even the hefty 7800 GTX. I also give my impressions of the Dungeon Siege II demo.

NOTE: The image comparison tool is not perfect (I still need to tweak a few things and debug some more) but it gets the job done. I hope you like it.

Just skimmed through it, well done...

I like that you used Abba Zabba's demo.

That card is a beast and great review as always Clay. I also like the fact that it was not done with some FX-56 or 57 so the average joe can no what to expect with a mid-level CPU.

We stay updated but just not quite bleeding edge updated. There's pros and cons either way you go with a review system but I like to think that being more in the realm of what most people have is the most valuable approach for the reader. It's debatable of course. I appreciate your feedback.

Maybe it's just me/my eyes, but, besides the fence, I really couldn't tell any difference between AA and Transparent AA. :(

Transparancy AA only applies to alpha textures AFAIK which actually dont represent the major textures in games. furthermore with Multisampling the difference isnt noticable IMO .. i can only see the difference when i use Supersampling TPAA.
i made some screenshots comparsion between no TPAA & Supersampled TPAA in SC:CT . the difference is somewhat clear to me in that game.

oh the fence will be there aswell .. its the best place to look for the transparancy AA's effect :D

Heh, fair enough. I'll take a look at it as I can...it's hard to post on the board when I'm supposed to be working...

Nice review Clay. One thing, tho--maybe it's just on my machine (IE6), but the FEAR benchmark path "mini-newsreel" on page 6 is just text in a blue box. No link, no newsreel playing, just text. Am I missing something?
Otherwise great review!

Otherwise great review! Thanks, I'm glad you liked the review.

As for the "mini-newsreel", it's just a typical animated GIF. It displays fine for me in IE6 and Firefox 1.06. So, I'm not sure why you wouldn't be seeing it correctly. Let me know if you figure it out. Maybe try CTRL+F5 on that page or clearing your cache.

My apologies; apparently NIS was blocking it from displaying for some reason. Disabled NIS, and there it is!

No problem, glad you were able to resolve it. I wonder what NIS's beef was with an animated GIF. :)

You need to update your review to remove Farcry as a bundled game. It is not. I received my card yesterday and was surprised it wasn't in there. So I checked on BFG's website and sure enough, the card does not ship with the game.

On a sidenote, why do you ban Hotmail and Gmail accounts?

On a sidenote, why do you ban Hotmail and Gmail accounts?

Too many spammers and idiots from rival sites who have a beef with nV News were signing up and causing trouble.
