View Full Version : ATi R520 family roadmap.
The thing is I want my new card to be WGF compliant, and that means it has to be a unified shader model. Rumor has it that the R520 has a unified shader model and it 100% WGF compliant.
If there is anything certain than it is that the R520 will NOT have a unified shader model. You can trust me on that ;)
The R520 is however still WGF compliant, like the GF 7800 series but only WGF1.0.
WGF2.0 is the next generation DirectX with a unified shader architecture.

Well the Xbox360 is a unified shader model, and the R520 is based off the same tech as the XBox 360 so I assumed it was unified shader model. I think I've also read it in a few places.

R500 is one step forward than R520
like i suppose RSX is for G70

edit..... also wfg 2.0 doesnt call for hardware unification just api level unification but i could be wrong.

Everything I've read confirms this statement. I could also be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I'm not.

RSX is based on the same tech as G70.

No, the the R520 is NOT based of the Xbox360 GPU (R500). Those are two different GPU lines. This is common mistake many make because the codename are so similar.
The PC version of the R500 will be the R600.

For those that don't know, if you've been living under a rock for the last few months, the graphics processor in the PlayStation 3 is NVIDIA-designed and is called RSX. How does it compare next to the 7800?
"The two products share the same heritage, the same technology. But RSX is faster," said Kirk.
