PNY 6600 GT driving me nutts.

Been trying to get this damn card working 100% for a week now, but no matter what i do it just refuses to work properly. When playing D3D games (only ones tested) my frame rate is extremely random. I can be happily running around CS/HL2/Farcry @ 80-100fps then all of a sudden it would drop to < 10fps for a few seconds then go back to 80-100. Ive tried numerous drivers ranging from 71.89 to 77.77 along with various tweaked version as well. Ive tried turning fast writes off and forcing the card to run at 100% but neither have solved the problem.

System setup.

AMD Athlon XP-M @ 2.4Ghz
1Gb Geil Value DDR400 @ 210Mhz FSB
Abit NF7-S v2.0
X-Pro 400 Watt PSU
PNY Verto 6600 GT AGP

Anyone have a suggestion on something else to try because this is really getting on my nerves now.

do you have the GART driver installed?

yeah. without it AGP 8x gets disabled for some reason.

Just tried the 66.93 drivers which have fixed a similar problem with NF3+68xx cards but hasnt done jack for me. Also adjusted the PCI latency but that didnt work either.

I've given up on it now, sending the card back next week and gonna pay the extra to get a 6800GT instead.
