This is somewhat of a newbish question but I've been wondering for quite some time ...Does changing your screen's resolution/refresh rate as often as a lot of us gamers do ruin your monitor? I'm jw because I had a monitor die on me a few months back and it wasn't very old. Also, is it bad to demagnetize your monitor a lot?

Changing frequencies (resolutions / refresh rates) should not reduce the life of your monitor. Running at possible refresh rates above recommended supposedly does. Eg. My mid range CRT allows 1280x1024x100hz, but recommends lower refresh as that is right on the max H & V frequencies. Your CRT monitor should last well over 5 years and only suffer from gradual decrease in brightness. Of the 8 or so monitors I've owned, I only had problems with one, and that one had repeated problems until it ran out of warranty and I didn't bother repairing it again.
