This mod looks amazing so far. I'm guessing the idea is to use the added power of the 7800GTX to crank the graphics up a notch. Check out the GTX Mod Website (http://www.xtreme-lab.net/gtx/index.htm) for more screenshots.

Looks nice, but it seems all it really is, is an added bloom effect. It has that "shiny" look to it now.

Erm... I can produce similar results with 3mood and BJL's Bloom Mod ( http://d3glow.clanugsm.com/ ).

Nope. I also notice self shadowing along with parallax mapping. The lighting also seem different.

Keep in mind that the mod isn't finished yet. They also plan on replacing the models and improving the textures.

EDIT:

BJL's Bloom Mod ( http://d3glow.clanugsm.com/ ).

That mod cut my fps in half on my 6800GT.

I think this mod makes the game look like crap...

Yep, same here. I'm always up for trying a new mod.

That ain't Doom. It's WAY too light. It may be pretty but it ain't Doom.

I found a list of whats being added to the game.

- Bloom shader
- Parallax mapping
- RealMetal Ex (it's a new version of RM, not a revision)
- Self-Shadows
- Weapons Reflex
- Distance Grow
- Simple effect like sparks

The new metal shader makes it a worthy download IMO. I wish people would make mods like this for good games such as CoR. :P

I honestly never had a problem with the original game and how it looked. Imo it's still the best looking game out now, along with the expansion.

Ok, there's been roughly 10 responses here....where's that one guy who comes in and starts the "doom 3 engine cant do outdoors" thread ruiner at?

I personally don't see the big deal about HDR/bloom honestly. It just looks to me like how a hollywood movie portrays a dream. Kinda makes games less surreal IMO, but then I guess I haven't seen "real" HDR yet.

Far Cry's HDR looked great when it was tweaked properly (the screen seems over-exposed at default settings). Splinter Cell 3 also had a nice, subtle HDR effect. But yes, most of the bloom/quasi-HDR effects I've seen are extremely exadurated, especially in user-made modifications. Especially when it causes the contrast of the images to be off the chart: it makes half the scene almost totally dark and the other half almost totally white.

Still, I'll probably give the mod a try. It would be nice to know if the settings could be tweaked though, if it gets too annoying it would be nice if you could just shut off or minimize the effects that you don't like.

"GTX aka The Future of GreenTech"

Hmm, anyone tried this mod on 6800 Ultra? I couldn't find anything that says it's for 7800 GTX only.

I'm curious. :)

oh? So is this like....a game that has the exact same story line and levels as Doom3? I guess you never played the other Doom games, there were actually pretty light.

The textures don't look so bad...it's the lack of proper shading across the surfaces that's making them look as bad as they do. Given realistic per-material shading on every texture (e.g. metal has it's own specularity), the game would look much better.

Whats "weapons reflex"?

Whats "weapons reflex"?

I think it means a more 'realistic' kick/blowback from firng a weapon. Personally, in this respect I think modders are trying to un-Doom Doom 3, i.e make the game more realistic in certain areas when it's not/was never supposed to be a realistic franchise in the first place. I hope I'm wrong though.

As for the look of the mod, going by the screenies it looks horrible imho. Might look different in motion though.
