Alright I just recieved an SLI board.... unfortunately I cant afford two 6800gt's right now.... so should I get 2 6600gt's instead of one 6800gt? would they perform about the same or no?

Thanks for all the help

I would wait and save up and at least get a 7800GT,since the price seems to keep comeing down,I seen them about $75 higher then a 6800Gt.I would'nt get a 6600gt because a overclock 6800Gt would be just as fast as two 6600GT's.

Agreed with above poster. save up for a 7800GT or GTX.

Get 7800GT, they are almost as fast as the 7800GTX which is in some case faster than 2 6800GT's in SLI.

A single GTX is always faster then 6800GTs in SLi and in many cases even faster then 6800 Ultras in SLi.

Plus (I don't wanna get flammed for this) you'd find running a single GT/GTX alot more stable and smoother with the technology being relatively new... Perhaps not as fun though ;)

My GTX runs supersoaraway smooth bud ;)

I would suggest SH64 in recomending a 7800 GT

Definitely consider the 7800GT.

Ditto,

7800 GTs rock. I took the fan stickers off my XFX's and low and behold under the XFX was an nVidia sticker.

To answer your original question: Between a single 6800GT and a pair of SLI'ed 6600GTs, I would choose the 6800GT. The price for both options seems to be similar (about $250). I recommend the 6800 for the following two reasons:
- Upgrade path
- Slightly better performance in high resolutions
- Easier to sell 1 card than 2, in case you decide not to follow the upgrade path

The 6600GT's are attractive for the following reason:
- Once these cards become completely obsolete, you'll probably get a better price for 2 6600GT's than for 1 6800GT. For example, imagine the 4200's and 4600's. How much would you pay for a used 4200? Probably $25. For a used 4600? Probably $30. QED.
