ok i havn't got the fastest pc anymore

VIA KM266 ECS L7VMM3 v1.0c , athlon xp 1.8ghz, 512mb ddr sdram

MSI FX5600XT 64bit 128mb ddr NV31XT id 314

not sure what else to mention, anyway i'm looking to replace my gfx card, was looking at > http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_6200_Series.html

XFX GeForce 6200 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (PVT44AWAH6) (GX-047-XF)
NVIDIA introduces the GeForce™ 6200 GPUs, featuring a revolutionary design that delivers best-in-class performance on today’s hottest games and applications. The only GPU in its class to support Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 Shader Model 3.0, the GeForce 6200 powers the latest effects without compromising performance.

- Memory Interface 128-bit
- Fill Rate 1.2 billion texels/sec.
- Vertices per Second 225 million
- Pixels per Clock (peak) 4
- RAMDACs 400 MHz
- Supplied with Nascar Thunder 2004

would this peform better than my current card? (i won't pretend to know alot about gfx cards but it seems i always end up with some pos card)
oh yea does this have turbo cache??
but i do understand you can unlock extra pipelines on certain 6XXX cards (does this apply to 6200 cards?)
basicly I just want a card that has;

-128bit memory interface or higher
-128Mb mem or higher
-supports dx9 (not some fake dx9 card)
-will offer me some fps over this 5600XT card.
-decent fill rate (5600XT's is 936 quite poor i understand)
-and finally a good clock rate (currant card is 235/400) oc'd to 327/587
-a 100% working VMR mode that doesn't display a ***** flickering box
in the corner of a video windows!

my system has several fans for cooling and is in a large case so i don't have an issue with overheating. I only have AGP & PCI no pci-e. 4x max btw.
I can achive good perrormance in currant games like bf2, hl2 etc with this card atm but would perfer a card that is actually whats its meant to be not pretending to be a XT card or whatever, if that makes any sense?

Hope someone can point me in the right direction!

A 6600 GT would probably be your best choice. It will be limited by your CPU, but it should still give you a decent boost and allow you to play most games with at least 2x AA and 4x AF.

is it available cheapish? i'm only a student atm, goin to uni next month.

I read that certain 6200 cards can be unlocked to perform neally as good as a 6600GT is there any truth in that?

thats why i was looking at the 6200 on overclockers, i been trying to find more info on the unlocking etc.

Early revisions of 6200 cards were able to be unlocked, but I'm not sure if they're available any more. Do a search through this forum for 6200 unlocking as I know there were a couple threads about it.

yea I read some of it, interesting stuff, do you or anyone think any of the 6200's on overclockers.co.uk will be unlockable? or can someone recommand a good UK site for one?

anyone? I really would much rather get a 6200 that can be unlocked than getting a 6600 which i cant afford. :(

Have you tried eBay for a good deal on a 6600GT?

I don't do auction sites.

1] most of the 6200 chips were changed/modded etc. so unlocking of pipees is LUCK.
2] You cant use 6200TC (Turbo Cache) cards.they are pci-e, and you dont have pci-e on your mobo.
4] 6200 AGP when unlocked, gives performance of 6600 (non-GT).
3] You can Try 6600LE AGP8x, 128bit, 128mb GDDR3. Basically its a 6600GT with 4pipes (a quad) disabled, which can be enabled by unlocking....ITS YOUR LUCK. All chips dont Unlock Successfully.!!!!
