View Full Version : Cannot use nVidia drivers

I have a Gainward FX 5200 card (Geforce FX Powerpack) running under XP Pro SP2 on a PC with ASUS A7V266-E MB and an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ CPU. My problem is that I cannot use any of the nVidia drivers I have tried. The result is intermittent blackouts, erratic mouse behavior, slowdowns and sometimes spontaneous reboots. I have to uninstall, use driver cleaner and reinstall Windows VGA drivers every time.

Does anyone have an idea what is wrong?

The only drivers I can find on the ASUS site are for audio and IDE controller. Are these relevant for my problem?

Found and installed VIA's 4in1 drivers. They didn't help, though. I still get frequent blackouts with the nVidia drivers.

Try ATI drivers ;)

Since when does ATI produce a GeForce FX 5200?

you may also want to try out the 66.93 driver. they are renown by many as the most stable drivers nvidia has made to date. it cured up a couple of problems i was having. only problem is you get a shadow bug in bf2 but i just disabled shadows in that game.

Is the video card running in 4x AGP mode? That mobo doesn't support 8x.
