I was curious if windows xp 64 bit is the trial to windows vista because if a push for 64 bit computing is on the way, I wonder if this is their testing grounds. Because if they are, I wonder if they will make seperate 32 and 64 bit versions or go with the 64 bit with a 32 bit emulator. All I have to say is if Microsoft goes with the current, they had better improve the emulator for gaming to a higher percentage of compatible games/apps. Because I also get the feel where this is the windows me to windows xp where windows me was to trial to see if the 98 windows engine could power 2000 features and it didn't happen. Thus the windows 2000 engine and 98 like added features is what we see in the successful windows xp. At least that is the feel I got when I see windows me and windows xp. I am thinking windows xp 64 is to see if seperate 64 and 32 bit windows are needed for Vista or not.

By the time Vista comes out every game will be compatible with x64 :) Maybe not supported, but compatible, yes.

So, then Vista will be one OS, then. No pro or home edtion either?

No, it should be the same. x64 and x32 will come in seperate versions as well.

No, what I meant was you sounded as if you were thinking one 64 bit OS, but I said would there be one 64 bit OS split into home and pro edtions were they add and remove features depending on the home and pro versions. Now it should be x64 home and pro along with a x32 home and pro from how your words sound. Best way for microsoft's profits would be to make a 64 bit only OS in home and pro. Because most people who hear about vista will not see the benefits of vista and only see a 32-bit OS., And that general customer will only see that windows xp will suit them until either the time comes for a needed upgrade (which benefits the customer) or will get it immediately (the bleeding edge computer user). If they make 4, it will confuse the customer in what version to buy and when. And leave microsoft in a postion to take the loss. Now, I am not a microsoft fanboy, but I am into making sure that at least for myself that everyone wins in the end if I were microsoft. Something Bill Gates and his crew are starting to forget. A good example of this confusion is the Creative X-Fi series making 4 cards. The two high end (Fatality and elite pro) along with the two low end cards (platinum and extreme music) are so close in features that it would have made sense to make two cards. But I guess when they made a card with a gaming celebrity (I wouldn't want to be him, your fun has just became your stressful job. you don't win, your name is off the future product) that Creative I guess didn't like making a odd number of cards.

There is going to be a 32 bit and 64 bit version. I am sure of that. I heard the 64 bit version will ONLY come as Pro. Maybe the 32 bit version will ONLY be Home but I doubt it. As for gaming, all my new titles work fine and if anyone wants to play something from a few years ago they should count on creating a dual boot.

well, I just got Madden 2006 and it can't load past it's splash screen no matter what I try. BTW, any game using starforce protection can't work on 64 bit windows yet as the guys who made the protection haven't made 64 bit protection drivers yet. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a good example of this.
