ok i have no idea whats goin on i just happened to check my temp on my video card the other day and i see its idling at 90 degrees! it was usually at 67 degrees before i dont know what i changed or did to make it run so damn hot. it even has one of those coolers on it i cant remember what its called.
im running the 77.77 drivers and umm its not overclocked or anything. i do have it set to clone on to my tv if that makes a big difference? if u need any other info plz ask!
please help!
TIA

Can you check to see if the fan is still spinning?
Is that celcius or farenheit?
90F is very good. 90C is very bad

he prob means C as reported so in the cp. once you check to see if the fan is working take the card out and makesure the heatsink is making good contact with the gpu and hasn't somehow come lose.
something tells me the fan went cahput. Make sure its still running.

you probablyhave a lot of heat buildup in your case. Before I installed a watercooler, my case used to build up heat like mad. After playing a game my inside temps were like 80C on idle.

It may be the drivers. I just upgraded from 71.84 to 77.79 (I have MCE)... and my temps went up 20 degree C instantly. These are WQHL certified Nvidia drivers... and I haven't been fudging around with betas... so I'm bummed. My idle temp is about 72C and my load temp with UT99 is 91C. Ouch. Never used to even hit 70C with the last driver. Amazing huh? My 3d03 number didn't really change with the new driver... in fact, it went down a little to 12,356 from 12,441. I'm at a loss. Do I rollback? DOH!
Every driver I have ever tried has reported a different temperature on my 6800GT OC, even though the temps reported by SpeedFan never varied by more than a couple of degrees. I would suggest installing SpeedFan, and not trusting what the drivers say :D

Went up?? The 71.84 have a known issue where they report temperatures 20% over what they were, 77.79 should have fixed it.

Did you check any of what has been suggested here (monitoring temps with Speedfan, making sure the fan is working properly, etc)?

can you post a screen shot from the cp temperature ?
also try the latest driver 81.95
try blasting ALOT of compressed air through eveyr crevice and opening around your cooler.. hold that trigger down. That solved my problem.
Check your case fans and vents too..
Finally, I'd start wondering if the thermal compound between the core and the cooler has broken down.

No kidding. I took my 6800 with Artic Cooling NV5 out of the case a few times, and blew a little air with my mouth at it, and wondered why my idle temperate was so high.. then about a week or two ago, I had a crazy idea of taking the NV5 heatsink appart. All the dust was on THE OTHER SIDE. It was like making a fort or a dam. That dust was pretty adamant about no tresspassers. Since I had the whole thing appart I just got a big brush and swept it all off. Put everything back and instantly about 5-10C lower.
