Hi all I have just orderd a Radeon 9800 pro ultimate 256mb GC to replace the 128mb 9800 that i allready have but i have a few questions. Is the 256mb card any different in design?? the reason I ask is so that I know that it will fit into my p.c. do they all go into the same agp slot and use the same ammount of power to run. I have a pentium 4 2.4 ghz proccesor,1 gig of ram and a 300 watt power supply. Do you think this is suficiant??? anyway could you pls mail me at dezel169@aol.com thanx very much

Yeah, the cards are essentially the same except for memory size, so you shouldn't have any problems if your old card worked fine. As always with any new video card install, I'd reccommend you uninstall the old drivers, run DriverCleaner, etc., before you put the new card in.

How much did you pay for a 9800pro 256mb card.,because I have seen the X800pro for $229 and the 6600GT for only $141 and it would be faster then a 9800pro 256mb even though it has less memory.

Check airflow, make sure your fans are working. Also there are AGP versions of all of the X800 model cards. Hate to say it but you are going to see absolutely no performance gain with that card you bought - you might want to cancel your order, or refuse the shipment when it arrives to get your money back. If you are going to drop over $200 on a video card you should get a 6600GT (less than $200) or an X800pro (if you can find a good price).

well i have already noticed significant change in card performance so each to his own i say. but does anyone know what cooling fan would be best for this hot card??? i looked at an extractor fan and some 1 said to get a new heat sink for my case what do u all think???

the fan that I had on my 9800pro did the job just fine and the X800 come in agp or pci and even with a x800pro you would have seen double the performance from the 9800pro ,but if that what you wanted enjoy.

The original 9800 Pro 256MB sold in 2003 used DDRII, which runs hotter than the DDR or GDDR3 that is more commonly used. You may want to verify what flavor memories are used on yrou new 256MB 9800 Pro.

get the Zalman VF700ALCU for cooling that baby, i have one on my 256 MB 9800 Pro flashed to XT, and it keeps it nice and cool ;) went from 72 c load with a crappy Arctic Cooling silencer rev 3, to less than 60 c with the zalman. It also comes with ramsinks,. so you'll be good to go !!
