Let me know what you think...we've had many requests for this in the past.

can you make this an opt in or opt out feature.... im just not digging it, right now concidering i just open them up anyways....Perhaps. We had a lot of people request this in the past with the reason being they only wanted to see "video card news" or only that and "CPU news" but not other news. :) Just trying to give what I thought most people wanted. I could give you the ability to "collapse/expand all" at once. Would that be good enough? Otherwise, we'd have to get into a user profile setup (cookies, etc) so that it would remember your preferences and we don't really want to do that for the front page at this time anyway.

Consider perhaps defaulting to expanded view and collapse when needed.

By default collapsing it simply reduces liklihood of clicks.

Let's give this a day or so to get some more feedback (maybe those that wanted this will chime in). I'll tweak it to whatever the majority wants.

Well, first off, very cool web programming.

However, after reading this post i just realized what those links were, i just ignored them when i saw them there.

Honestly, i dont like it. I dont see why 'space' is such an issue unless someone is running 800x600 or something.

Thanks for the effort Clay though i still prefer the calssic view because i get used to take a quick look at the roundups & pick whatever interests me.
now that just make the job takes longer :p

Thanks for the feedback guys. Now I'm wondering where all the folks are that wanted it this way a year or so ago. :D I definitely agree with what you all are saying, it does just add more time to read the news. I'll give others time to share their thoughts here but I'll likely make a change back to more of the previous layout tonight. I'll probably tweak it so that it is defaulted open like Sazar suggested unless there really is no interest at all in being able to collapse the headings. Thanks again for the feedback guys.

From an "above the fold" standpoint though, I do like this as it allows more room for past news postings. That's a very minor thing though. The bottom line to me is whatever the majority of you guys want.

I changed it to be more like the old style, I'll probably tweak it a bit more but I think we'll abandon the collapsable feature. :)

thankyou Clay - great to be offered the choice - a lot of websites dont care what there readers think.

No problem Superfly.

nV News is a second-tier site and I like that. As such, Mike doesn't let any outside influences drive this site...that enables those of us on staff to just focus on you guys. At times, some of us on staff might come across as hardasses but it's to weed out those that would like to come in here and cause trouble for 99% of the members that enjoy being here. Sorry, I kind of got off on a tangent there. :)

Not to nag or anything but i would've said that this statment is 100% true if that Pricegrabber issue wasnt still around.

That's a completely different topic; unless you want to donate the balance of that pricegrabber ad or help pay for this site like Mike mostly does out of pocket. Or do you have another advertiser lined up? I'm all ears. :) We know it's an issue for some people, it affects me as well but we're doing the best we can.

I liked the old format. This one just takes me longer to see what's available. However, I am pleased you are always looking to improve things.

The bottom of the link/drop down arrow is cut off when there is a headline beneath. Any fix? Line spacing issue?

Thanks for the heads up. That seems to just be an IE issue...looks fine in Firefox. It probably is a line-height style issue.

The new "new" layout looks great, I really enjoy the icons in the text, really nice.

Cool, thanks GlowStick. As BrianG pointed out, I have an issue with IE but I'll get the fixed as soon as I can.

Understood .. thanks for the explanation!
i just though i might pop it in since you talked about how much you care about the readers & thier opinions. thats something i agree with 100% :)

The pricegrabber issue doesn't affect Internet Explorer but it does affect "some" Firefox users. It's something we're looking into.

Regarding the layout...

I've made some adjustments and the bullets display correctly now in IE and I changed the "external link" icon to be a bit more subtle and added an arrow.

Thanks Brian. I'm open for any suggestions that anyone might have in the future. I think this is a good layout to settle on for now.
