Got a high spec PC with only 1gb Ram.. still jerky when loading BF2 levels for first 10-15 seconds

Handy Tip - Defrag and reclaim your memory

http://www.brentleimsoftware.com/products/products.html

Download the memory optimizer and run it.

From what I can see, it pages all your memory out to the pagefile and then re-populates it, un-fragmented.. and you usually end up with more.

I do mine before I play BF2 and my jerky first few seconds of a new level, disappear.

ie.. just gone from 624mb free to 812mb free after defragging... it makes all the difference.. try it and report back.

i didnt realise the memory optimisers were still needed in 2000/XP because of memory management in the kernel. Ill definatly try it though!

yep.. memory management in XP/2000 kernel's is still subject to fragmentation and leaks, its vastly improved over NT 4.0 and nothing like 98/95/ME were though.

But still required.

I think a better idea would be to turn down a few of the options as suggested in the BF2 tweaks thread.

Running this program crashes the desktop. It took 5 minutes to open word.
