Lo all.
I am wondering if the PureVideo software is working well on XP x64 edition. The trial doesnt seem to decrease the CPU usage any when watching WMV9 HD content. Thanks for any help.

I downloaded the newest trial of PureVideo from nvidia.com, but I havent tried it on DVDs yet. I did try it on some WMV9 1080p stuff and the CPU usage did not go down. My PC did not crash though.

You don't need the nVidia PureVideo decoder to watch WMV HDs. 'tis only for MPEG1/2(DVD).

WMV HD decoding works only in Windows 32 with the following beta patches from here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888656

( You need the DRM patch at the bottom of the page as well.)

WMV HD decoding doesn't work properly on the 6800 series except for the PCI-E 6800. It works fully on the 6600 series and upto 720p on the 6200 series.

Also on the AGP GeForce FX and 6 6600 series (so I'm guessing the FX has decode acceleration as well since it suffers from audio stuttering ) there're audio sync issues on slower CPUs. ( This is mentioned in the release notes for the driver ( though not the slow CPU bit. I've noticed that the slower the CPU is, the worse the lag is. ) ).

I have a 7800GTX. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next release and see if they have fixed it by then...

WMV HD decoding works perfectly on the 7800 series and the PCI-E 6600 GT/vanilla.

You just need the beta patch from Microsoft to enable it available here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=888656&SD=tech

and the DRM patch on the same page ( which need to be installed first ).
