The metal spreader on the backside of my BFG 7800GTX gets really hot!! Even when I'm not playing games its hot. If I'm playing a game it will burn my finger, it feels hotter than the gpu. My temps are alright, but I didn't think ram got that hot.

Yea that thing gets to extreme temps. Ram is able to sustain a fairly good amount of heat however :)

You know whats even hotter? Try running this OCZ Vx ram at 3.5v. Those ****er's will melt your finger off :)

You may want to get a fan blowing across the RAMs, even a slow one. Every 10C you can drop the operating temperature doubles the lifespan of a semiconductor.

don't think it's heat just off mem but the back of GPU core ?

It may be, but the spreader is only connected to the ram and it feels hotter than the core area.
