So long to perhaps the greatest football player of all time. I know some think he should have retired years ago, but I personally think he earned the right to call it quite when he felt best.

That sucks... I was a big fan of Jerry Rice... he was an amazing player.

.
He was pretty much a class act too. He and his wife didn't even take a vacation for the first 10 years of his NFL career...he was too busy in the offseason training on his own.

but yet, no one said a thing, when Emmitt Smith decided to retire. Best running back, EVER. He is FAR from the best player ever, all he could do is catch. Granted, he was good at it. Emmit could catch, and run, and fake, and twist, and even THROW! Emmitt's a better all around player to me.
But yeah, Jerry needed to go. This is a young man's sport. Or else Joe Namath would still be playing :p

Take away the best offensive line in the league for Smith's entire career and Walter Payton is still the all time yards leader. Better yet, move that line to Detroit and perhaps Barry Sanders would still be playing.

Hey, that's what makes a team good. Take away Joe Montana and where would Jerry rice be? Or take away Chicago's line, and where would Walter Payton be? Take away the Dolphins off line and where would Dan Marino be? see what I'm saying? Emmitt's still the best, his facts and stats prove it. Jerry's good too, so is Dan, and Walter, and Barry
