View Full Version : ATI Radeon X1800 16/24/32 pipelines
Hmm that score is good but its not telling much because 3DMark was mostly running at defualt . we still need to figure how well it perform under heavy AA/AF loads (thats were the 512-bit internal bus might come in handy) .
anyway if that score is accurate then i assume the X1800XT might end up as fast as the X850XT-PE was againest the 6800U.
on single stock 7800GTX + FX-55 i get ~ 7600 . the percentage difference is ~13%.

don't forget nvidia is always been slower than ati in 3dmark05, while in games the difference was much lower
i also think the new ati card will be in shop not before than a month, so maybe nvidia could release the FW80 in time.

Many AIB partners have received the ATi Radeon X1800XL (R520XL) card samples last Friday and the die size seems to be larger than the R520 sample we received previously. The die size is enlarged from 18.2cm x 19cm to 19.3cm x 19cm so ATi has re-taped the core and added some features unknown to us at this point of time. ATi will be unveiling R520 officially on October 5th but we do not expect mass production of the cards till end of Oct. So far we heard only 1K of such cards produced for customers qualifications and reviews. Yield rate for 16ps and 24ps R520 is under 25%.

Well, at least it's an improvement from the 1%-3% we heard last month. Nowhere near forum member AthlonXP1800's factual claim of nVidia having 90% yields on the G70 core though.

If that turn to be true, then it an improvement but still not good enough, under 25% yield will not make many chips. Back in 2002, Nvidia sold 5000 NV30 chips, 24 chips wee worked out of 100 per wafers, that was 24% yield. Nvidia shipped around 30,000 G70 chips already, that about 90% yield.

Theinquirer says X1600 XT will be 12 pipes 600 mhz
It seems very close to X1800 pro
(if true and if x1800 it's really 16 pipes)
A mid ramge card with 12 pipes and 600 mhz looks like vengance
for X600
żany roumurs about GeForce 7600?

Too many rumors...
A more credible source but still not totally, Toms Hardware states in their news section:
Volume availability appears to mainly refer to the RV515 and RV530 graphics processors, which will cover the entry-level and the mid-range segment of the new product generation. Users waiting for the flagship R520 will have to wait "three to four weeks" after launch to get a graphics card with ATI's fastest new graphics chip into their hands. However, production yields apparently are much better than ATI originally had expected, sources indicated - which should enable a quick ramp of the chip.

When I read posts from Rage3D forum and I realised I misread the very very very important part from VR-Zone link...

Of course the yield is under 25% but it really not a big improvement over 3%, they produced only 1000 R520 chips, that not even matched 5000 NV30 chips with 24% yield on 0.13 micron. 1000 R520 chips translated into 4.8% yield on 0.09 micron, ouch that far much worsen ever than NV30, ATI definetely in very huge trouble.

VR-Zone got X1800 XL performance (http://www.vr-zone.com/?t=999&e=1), it scored less than 7000 3D Mark 2005, it slight faster than X850 XT PE using beta driver. That not very good, it not what ATI wanted, they will work very hard on the driver trying to get X1800 XL to 7800 GT performance level.

Do bear in mind though, the XL is their 3rd tier card - They'll want the Pro to beat out the 7800GT, and the XT to beat the GTX. Also, that's only 3dMark perf - for all we know, the R520 architecture might not be quite as optimal for 3DMark as the R420 one was. In that case, it may not be indicative of real world game performance. I guess what I'm saying is - let's just wait and see. We're only one more month from release, and then we'll know what the playing field is going to look like. At least until December.

From those specs I beleive the differences between the Pro and XT is way to dramatic, and the difference between the XL and Pro not enough...
