Bush offered to federalize the emergency effort, and it was the LAW that Blanco ask for help LEGALLY, not on the media.
Bush even had a document prepared for her, to just use, and then we would have had a fully deployed force possibly a day sooner.

Yup, the govenor of La waited after the president offered help. She and the mayor of NO are to blame.
Further more the federal government CANNOT go into a state with out the permission of the local government. It is in the constitution.

We questioned why we couldn't cross the bridge anyway, especially as there was little traffic on the 6-lane highway. This can be directly compared to the immigration of the mexican people to the US. People demand that the government not allow them in etc and form militias to try to block them. The reason behind it is, they belive that if they allow poor people in, they will them self become poor. Exact same thing is going on with the evacuees.
Basicly ask you self this. If the gov told you that they were going to allow 20,000 immigrants from under developed countrys move to your town. Would you guys be arms open? or crying and doing every underhanded tatic to stop it?
I also dont want someone to try to claim that this is turning into a raceist thing. When i say poor, thats what i mean. anyone who after the storm dosent have any money in the bank, and cant get any credit. basicly if they were living decnetly paycheck to pay check, maybe saveing a cuple bucks here and there, they are poor now regardless of race.

And if they aren't being let out of NO because they are poor then those responsible for it should be fired. You can freely, legally, go from whatever state you want to in this country wether you are poor or not.

"Its not the same". If those cops were to only allow people with 100k in thier bank account into the city, but not the rest of them the answer to the question 'why' would of course be "Its not the same". The people with the money, will go to the hotels, buy expensive dinners and new clothes tolitres etc. However the people with no money in the banks (or not nearly enough) no credit etc would go on the streets looking for hand outs. and of couse when they dont get any, start looting it. The ones that coudlnt affoard the hotels, where woudl they go? What would they eat? The answer to that is simply to say its not the same and have someone else do the dirty work of keeping them out.
On the immigraton to your town, lets say that the government also granted them citizenship. Dose that change your answer?

It is not the same because one group has citizenship and the freedoms that come with it (including moving from state to state, leaving NO for instance).
If the government granted this imaginary group of people citizenship then yes, they can come to my town. They have the right whether I like it or not.
