Finnally made the jump, sold off my PC in parts and picked up a Acer Ferrari 4005

Specs are...

Turion64 ML-37 2.0Ghz 1Mb Cache
WSXGA+ 1680x1050 15.4"
1gig of DDR333 Upgradable to 4 gigs i think? DDR400...
ATI Radeon Mobility X700 128mb
Toshiba MK1032GAX 100GB 5400rpm and 16mb Cache
Dual Layer DVD±RW
Wireless-G, Bluetooth, Gigabit lan, 56k....
Comes with a nice Ferrari Bluetooth optical mouse

Only 2 downsides are the 5in1 reader does not to CompactFlash and its the ALC250 vs the ALC650... ( i could always buy the PCMCIA Audigy2 though)

So, all this in a Very nice looking 6 1/2 pound case (carbon fiber top), very little heat build-up and over 3 hours of battery life with normal usage (dvd/mpeg playing, internet)

The screen is impecable, feels great not to be tied down anymore.

Only had it a couple days so i havent really had a chance to set it up like i want and play some games, but from what iv'e read it does around 6000 3dmark03 points wich would put i on par with a 9800Pro 128meg (my old vid card that i was happy with).

I'll post more when i have more time to play :)

Actually, saw a showdown of sorts between the 2..
at "Batterymark - conditioning" the Pentium M has longer battery life, but at "Batterymark - Life" the Turion has longer battery time.

Ill se if I can find the link.. stumbled on it while looking for comparing benchmarks of x700 128mb and 6600go 256mb..

also corrected some errors in the post hehe..

Nothing is as good as the Centrino bar none, it's the ONLY decent processor from Intel. I want to make a desktop system from it but, 1# lack of decent overclockers boards and SLI which is a must for such a powerfull yet cool running CPU

I really want a Laptop, looking at either RockDirects Pegasus 650, since it has a MXM module (x700 or 6600go) that can be switched off (and instead go Intel Integrated) to save battery when no 3d is needed.
Or a Acer 5024WMLi perhaps, bit cheaper and I wouldnt have to order it from UK (live in swe)..
main issue is I got to dig up the dough for it somewhere hehe..

Centrino == Pentium M proc and chipset and Intel Pro wireless card.

Its the "technology" package :D

The 1.6 pentium-m in my wife's Dell laptop chews through folding@home work units only about 10-15% slower than one of the 2.2ghz cores on my X2. Pretty impressive for such low clocks/heat dissipation IMO.

That's cause the P-M is based off the P3 basically a super overlocked P3. The P3 was sadly Intel's last good Desktop Chip.

So far... PERFECT

I love this thing, It boots fast, it runs any program fast, games look great... Wireless works great, the Bluetooth mouse it comes with is a great touch, And everybody iv'e showed it to so far is just like wooooow, even though they dont usualy give a crap about computers.

Played C&C Zero Hour max graphics and some ViceCity in its native res and this thing barely breaks a sweat.

So far iv'e gotten consistent 3 to 3 1/2 hours or battery life (no gaming though).

Only bench i have done is 3dmark03, got 5500 which is okay, wax expecting a little more but games seem to run great so i cant complain.

Oh, as far as Centrino being the best? 3DNow, SSE2, SSE3 and a integrated memory controller makes the Turion the best in my books even though it may use slightly more juice. Heat hasn't even become close to being a problem...

Dell XPS Gen2 is looking pretty hot, but it costs a wheelbarrel of cash..
5233 3dMark05 isnt too bad for a laptop.
