I'm thinking of getting a DDR500 kit on newegg. I found 2 that suit me. They both seem to be similar but the OCZ is quite more expensive. What should I go with.

OCZ: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227219

P.S. On a side note do you guys think I should be able to pull 2.5 Cas with 2.8v on like FSB 230?

im sure there both good - I can vouch for the quality of Crucial RAM - OCZ are good too im told.

Yeah, well that's why I'm wondering if the OCZ is actually better? They both got same speeds and timings, is the OCZ just an overpriced version of the Crucial kit?

If it was me it would be the crucial - no contest.

but thats ONLY because I know it works - and works very very well.

im sure i'll try OCZ one day, they seem very proffessional.

"stay away from Kingston & Corsair though (pants)"

Kingston I couldn't agree more with, but why the hating on Corsair?

no hate - I just think Corsair is overpriced and underperforms.

Look at this review for the Crucial stuff:

Excellent for overclocking you new Athlon X2 CPU

You don't need to pump the voltage on the RAM either. I'm using 1.4v for memory running @ 280MHz FSB 3-3-3-8-1T. SWEET F-ING MEMORY! Thanks Newegg & Crucial Memory.

Yea, Corsair is ok, but they are losing touch with the Enthusiast market IMO. I would probably take the OCZ over the Crucial, but they are both fantastic.

Don't those Crucial sticks have the LED's on top?

EDIT:

1.4v!! Hahahaha! I think he is getting CPU voltage and memory voltage mixed up :D

^^ yeh the crucial RAM runs between 2.6 & 2.8v - I use 2.6 as im not overclocking.

and its the tracer mem that comes with the LEDS - and the blue "ground lights"

super cool but super expensive stuff.

So i'll basically be deciding which to get based on what you guys suggest. Right now I'm leaning towards OCZ.

BTW, I noticed OCZs have like $40 mail-in-rebate.

dont diss my corsair ram! :P i would go with OCZ, but in that pricey situation, go with crucial...

I forgot to say, I got 235 on 2.6v with the mem in my sig on an Intel 865 chipset.

1GB DIMMs don't overclock well at all the max i can get out of my Crucial memory is 253MHz DDR

How much voltage are you putting through it?

Do nFORCE4 boards, on average, have better luck with OCing memory? My board tops out at 2.85v...not the greatest for big OCs. :(

I find that very hard to believe.

The Ballistix don't need loads of voltage put through them, most people seem to be getting good OC's at 2.8v 3-3-3-8 1T.

I heard 260-270 is about what most people max out on their Crucials.

Yeah the 512MB x2 get 270MHz but 1GB DIMMs are diffrent, i use 2.75v doesn't like to much voltage at all.

Same here, I can not do even 255 Mhz out of it. It works well though at 3335 1T at 2.68V (minimun my SN25P gives to the RAM).

Yesh mine does 3/3/3/5 also.

I kinda miscalculated my money a little and because I'm getting a liquid cooling kit (bigwater) I think I'm gonna have to go with the Crucial. If the price drops on the OCZ, I might get those. But, seems to me crucial is just as fine.

I just ordered the Crucial, and I think I got the last one!
I ordered it around 9/11/2005 4:36:38 PM and nows its 7:22PM and it says "Auto-Notify" instead of "Add to Cart"

Glad to finally get out of using 2T!
