Old news. AFAIK there are at least 2 threads on this on these boards.
Windows is supposed to have some feature like this in a future version, it has been demoed. Same with OSX from their keynotes. Built in functionality that is rather than 3rd party.
That looks similar to the 3D desktop in the upcoming Windows Vista.

Except that you will actually be able to interact with the windows in 3D, rather than using a program to screen capture the windows and put them in 3D.

You can do this with DirectFB in linux too, but the problem is that it's a little slow because nvidia's accel isn't fully supported by it. That was the last time I tried it anyway. They might have made some improvement on it, but as far as I know, they havn't.
Edit:
Looking at the news on DirectFB.org, it looks like they did add a couple of nv improvements. Dragging transparent windows completely off the GPU, etc. So now I know what I'm gonna be playing with for a while.

haha, that is neat. i was starting to worry about deskspace due to the billions of icons
i have. XD
tho there seems to be a graphical artifact. :( there are two blue boxes and a black bar. the black bar isn't that noticeable in the screencap because i have the space wallpaper but it's there. (the screen to the right is because i have dual view. ;)

edit: those graphical artifacts were due to konfabulator and objectdock. oh well, giving up those apps for the increased deskspace is a fair trade.
another edit: aw crap, the app has an expiration date. i'm guessing he's planning to go commercial when it's out of beta.
