I'm disappointed to hear that the R520 is going to be paper launched after all. That's the only one in the lineup that hardware enthusiasts and gamers will be interested in. At least it'll be available in volume once it hits shelves though.

Cha right. I'll believe it when I see it. I still don't think this card is ever going to come out.

Whats wrong? Im just stating the facts.
Users waiting for the flagship R520 will have to wait "three to four weeks" after launch to get a graphics card with ATI's fastest new graphics chip into their hands
That's disappointing but maybe they're doing it for financial reasons. It probably works out better for ATI to get the mainstream cards to retail rather than trying to accomodate enthusiasts. Although, it's hard to see how a few weeks would matter so I don't know, maybe it's just not ready yet.

Thats not true. Based off the rumored specs of the X1600, it will probably match the 6800GT in most cases and beat it in a few. If they manage to release it at the targeted $200 price range, I'll probably get one.

You can get a 6800GT for $250 easily....

ATI produced only 1000 R520 chips, you called that disappointing? I could consider it very devastate, it 5 times worsen than Nvidia made 5000 NV30 chips back in 2002. Nvidia had shipped around 30,000 G70 chips in just 3 months now and will expect them to ship another 30,000 chips for the next 3 months, so in end of November Nvidia will ship around total of 60,000 G70 chips since the launch, that outnumbered 60 times to 1000 R520 chips.

i agree with you.

I've already had a 6800GT and sold it for a couple of reasons. Besides, the PCIe version is between $290-$350.
The X1600 will also have some new and interesting features like Adaptive AA (could be a form of transparency AA) and H.264 HD Decoding. Also, ATI's outstanding IQ.

AthlonXP, once again you spout out values with no link to back them up. Where in the Tomshardware article did it ever state 1000 r520 chips. I didn't read it. In fact, if you did read (or should I say could), it clearly states that the r520 is producing better yields than even ATI expected. Thus, they are ramping up production. Remember, if Nvidia were in this all alone, we lose as the consumer. Sure, root for Nvidia. But come on, competition is a good thing. I have an ATI card (x800xt PE) and my brother has a 6800GT o/c to ultra speeds. Both are damn fine cards. Consider this, if the r520 fails to materialize, why would Nvidia release a refresh G71 (or whatever) anytime soon. I am rooting for a solid r520 release, so that Nvidia will drop the prices of the 7800GTX even further. If the difference between the two is a few percentage points (either way), I can get a kick arse SLI or Crossfire solution. I have no loyalties when it comes to video cards.

No wonder you didnt read other threads in Hardware Rumor Mill forum, you cant missed it, I guess others didnt bother to read all threads, so anyway there the thread (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=692492&postcount=1) with the link.

People say, "If you can afford a $500 video card then what's $200 on a motherboard?" when the discussion of being forced into PCI Express comes up. Same applies here right?

They pro'lly will be having bundled Xfire cards too..
That would be a good promotional idea to kind of make up for being so late to the game (and also help increase their market-share more quickly). Kind of do what eVGA did with the 7800GTX and throw in a free motherboard.

My bad my bad, i read that as crossfire cards will be 200 more, not mobo's.
Anyway werent sli mobo's 200 when they came out, now they're basically half price.
It seems like ATI fans are going to have to shell out the big bucks to compete with the Nvidia SLI crowd. ATI better have some kick a$$ performance or else heads will roll. :firedevil
