Sorry if this has been posted already!
Many AIB partners have received the ATi Radeon X1800XL (R520XL) card samples last Friday and the die size seems to be larger than the R520 sample we received previously. The die size is enlarged from 18.2cm x 19cm to 19.3cm x 19cm so ATi has re-taped the core and added some features unknown to us at this point of time. ATi will be unveiling R520 officially on October 5th but we do not expect mass production of the cards till end of Oct. So far we heard only 1K of such cards produced for customers qualifications and reviews. Yield rate for 16ps and 24ps R520 is under 25%.

God October... :(

They are taking forever to get this thing out.

And they really went with that name, huh? Stupidest name I've ever seen, especially because it mean 101,800, NOT 11800. Idiots.

EDIT: And what's with both companies using #800 as the big, flagship card? WHy 800? Why not 900? And why both the same number?

I think they should've just used X900 for the base model and gone from there. Either that or invent something entirely new.

But anyway... Christ the end of October before it's available? Wow... just wow. If the XT isn't at least 10% faster than the 7800GTX this thing is going to be a disappointment.

And what to think about the X ;)

Yeah, I'm really sick of the letter "x". It's time to get a new one.

I think they should call it the X9FX800 XT LE SE PE.

Actually, now that I think about it, "X9" would have sufficed and sounded much cooler in the process.

But you wont able to buy R520 cards a day after 5th October launch because it will not be in stock until 4 weeks later after the launch, I am talk about yet another paper launch, R520 cards will be available on sales from 5th November 2005. That 5 months late, that almost time for G70 refresh.

I just wish they'd hurry up and release something. I want one for my 2nd system.

Man, if it werent for the extreme popularity and success of the 9800\9600 series, I think ATI would be in a lot of trouble right now. But so many people bought those (and are still buying them) that they can probably afford to be a little late this cycle... though itl catch up with them later, especially if the R520 isnt that great.

The only part that's correct:

If they named it X900, what would they ame the mid-end, and enty level. those are occupied completely by x300/x550/x700/x800. it would get conjusted.
also it would seem like LAST-GEN name.

although X1800 sounds worse (ten eighteen hundred).

You looking forward to see the price? You will have a good idea what the price will be, but dont expect it to be near as cheap as 7800 GTX price.

Quote from the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26106) today:

We confirmed that two flagship Radeons X1800XT and X1800PRO will come as 512MB cards

Nvidia not released a 7800 GTX with 512Mb, it is really very very expensive, they knew the 512Mb DDR3 memory cost because they already has a 6800 Ultra 512Mb, it didnt come cheap at $689 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143028&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&ATT=Video+Cards). 6800 Ultra 256Mb is now cost $399 (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=19017409&AFFIL=pricewatch&NR=1) and EVGA 7800 GTX is now cost at low as $435 (http://www.friendlyhippo.com/p/G/B000A7BR4G/).

I expect prices on Radeon 1800 cards look like below:

$799 - Radeon X1800 XT 512Mb
$699 - Radeon X1800 Pro 512Mb
$599 - Radeon X1800 XT Crossfire Edition 256Mb
$399 - Radeon X1800 XL 256Mb
$299 - Radeon X1800 LE 256Mb

Dont forget these are ATI prices but retailer prices will be differ, remember when X850 and X800 XL was launched last year and when it shipped, it wasnt at ATI recommended prices, retailers set the price twice as much, buyers have to buy these cards at ridiculous prices like $1000 for X850 XT PE and $599 for X800 XL. When if X1800 cards available in November, if you want a X1800 XT and XT Crossfire Edition, it may will cost as high as $1500 at first then the prices will coming down in the following few months. At that time a dual 7800 GTX SLi will cost as little as $700 in November.

Athlon, you are the most annoying of all fanboies. First, you state that you surmise the price will be as follows: list of random BS that you pulled from your arse. Then, you have the audacity to state that these are ATI prices, not retail. What are you, upper management at ATI. Why don't you stop with your c%& that you are trying to pass on as fact. I know this a pro-Nvidia site but please, I can get similar BS at the Inquirer. At least the NV mods aren't as blatantly biased and ignorant as you are.

I am sorry, but he seems to be along the lines of veracity. 512Meg DDR3 with 1.25ns will not be cheap. Have a look at the 512Meg versions of 6800ULTRA prices which still has 1.6ns memory. Nicorulez, you must speak analytically than to label someone with fanboi. It only goes to reflect your own status when it comes to fanboi. :p

Just add him to your ignore list if he bugs you. There is no reason to attack him.

The insane prices on the 512mb 6800 Ultra's is just price gougeing. The online shops know they can charge $800 for a 6800 Ultra and people would buy it, so they do. The 512mb X800XL can be found as low as $300 and it uses very similar ns memory.

As for XP1800, all he does is forward BS from the inquirer. Take a look at his post history.

The X1800 is shaping up to be better than I was expecting. Lets how they can get have 'em available at a reasonable time after launch. I also like how ATI is announcing a whole new line-up at once. I hope that trend catches on.

EDIT:

I expect prices on Radeon 1800 cards look like below

The key words here are "I expect". For course you would say that ATI's prices are going to be inflated due to your bias. Your the biggest nVidia fanboy on these forums. Every other post from you is about how ATI's products suck using the inquirers "facts" to back it up. Hell, it would surprise me if you wrote for the inquirer.

Why couldnt they just name it Radeon 5 (for 520) then radeon 5, 5.1, 5.2 5.3, give each lower end card a 5.x number, or even 5 xt, 5 ultra, 5 xl....too many damn cards these days. I miss the days of ti 4200,4400,4600. Take ur pic. se, le, xt, xl, gt, vanilla, ultra, oc, pro, non pro, pe, non pe, etc..

Good call man. I never even thought of have 5.x or something. That's a pretty good idea.

They could do like 5.800XT, 5.700, etc.

aAV7's idea is great. IMO the codenames are fine, just put them in order of performance. For example.

R550 and R550 Pro - high end
R530 and R530 Pro - midrange
R510 and R510 Pro - budget

These names are simple and make it easier for the common consumer to buy and compare cards.

Sorry guys, did not mean to go off the handle. I just hate conjecture or speculation stated as fact. Sandeep, show me a link that states Athlon is telling the truth. Problem is, there is no link. The same stuff goes on at Rage3d (Hamidexa or Hellbinder anyone). I just get annoyed at the absurd amount of BS that flies around these boards. Yes, we know that the 512 MB cards aren't going to be cheap, but do you really think ATI would exact an incredible premium on their card if they are only a little faster (or maybe equivalent) to a 256mb 7800GTX? All I know is if the r520 is not 20% faster with AA/AF, SLI is where to go as I like the stability of the NForce 4 board.

Can't wait for the launch, always nice to read on new hardware. :)
