Yup its toast,

gonna have to order a replacement today, basically I've bought almost an entirely new PC this past 2 weeks.

oh well - a new one should last well past another year till its PCIe time.

Was it a "non-warranty" technicality that caused it to "die" ?

If not, why buy a new card when you can get it RMA'ed and then sell the RMA and get a new card....

What was your OC on it?

Superfly

it was flashed @ 410/1100 for almost 1 year.

actually, you got some good usage out of it considering. if i were you, id go right to PCIe, but if you just did pretty much a total overhaul on the rig, maybe a 6600GT would suffice until you can upgrade. :o

it was flashed @ 410/1100 for almost 1 year.So no 700/1800 under liquid nitrogen? How very disappointing ;).

Well, time for a 7800GTX setup, I suppose. Do it, do it!!! :D

I've decided I am going to go this route, though probably not dual core. Tired of waiting. All the nescessary equipment should be here in a few days.

New card arrived today, just another 68GT as im rather poor following my recent upgrade to AMD.

Im gonna wait for 2006 cards before buying another GPU!! and im not gonna fry this one either.

how dangerous do you think my OC is below? I thought it would be fine as so many people are doing it but threads like these make me worry.

I thought it would be fine as so many people are doing it but threads like these make me worry.Hmm, I haven't moved my clocks around at all on this GT, for that very reason. I went through that phase in the past. I ended up purposefully frying my 9800Pro by OCing because it was dying fast by itself anyway (after less than a year at stock speeds) and I needed revenge on ATi for making me a sucker for their defective, half engineered garbage again. For the last time, actually, no matter what they cook up. Anyway, I went ahead and burned that nasty-ass card up for fun.

401/343 or so was all it could handle (remember, it was crapping out already at stock), yet while it artifacted like no other and would lock occasionally, generally I could play some mean Far Cry anyway....till it just went poof...dead.

When it went belly up, there was a burnt electronics smell coming out of it, but it wasn't a hot GPU or RAM, it was fried power regulation equipment, which is where the strong smell was coming from.

I think even a fairly modest OC like you guys often use puts considerably higher strain on the power regulation circuitry, which explains why people's cards often die even though the temps are fine.

The tiny increase in performance just isn't worth it, in my opinion. It would be cool to see someone mod a card with better power regulation/supply, cool it with liquid nitrogen, and then see what these babies can really do.

I show my card doing 6800GT @ Ultra but actually I run it at stock. I hear the 6800GT from evga that I had used to do 410/1.11 when I had it and it was new. Now it can't even do 375/1.05 stable. I guess it maybe because that card has been through 5 of my friends or because, these 6800GTs crap out. My PNY can do nice clocks too, 410/1.1 but I am not taking the chance. Whatever I want to run, does run at 1280*1024 and occasionally at 1600*1200 so there is no need for me to ass rape this one.

All in all, I suggest running cards at medium overclocks rather than max, like say running a 6800GT @ 375/1.05 will still yield decent results. But don't push it too high or it will fry.

hmm thanks for the advice. maybe i will lower mine a bit then. right now I am at 385/1.08. it seems to still be quite a bit faster than the stock speeds of 370/1.0, and not much slower than 400/1.1

I got my BFG 5700 Ultra from 475 to 520, preaty amazing for stock cooling. But it was not worth it. It only produced a 2 frame diference. This was a 5700 Ultra after all.

Well at least it still lives in my Fedora rig. :p

I run 6800 oc 128 at 300/421/900@1.4v, been like that for about a year.

I just overclock now when I play a game and at 400/1.1 even though I can do 420/1.2. No problems so far (crossing thumbs behind back).

Would underclocking your card for 2D increase it's life?

Would underclocking your card for 2D increase it's life?I'd put money on it. My girlfriend's 5900 is underclocked to 75mhz core in 2d, with no performance problems whatsoever and a good 7c cooler.

5900 is underclocked to 75mhz
75mhz only? :|

75mhz only? :|
Is that even possible? ^^ maybe he just meant that he underclocked it by 75Mhz or somethin'?

Is that even possible? ^^ maybe he just meant that he underclocked it by 75Mhz or somethin'?75mhz total on the GPU for 2d mode. Yes, it's quite possible. ;) Runs cool as hell (the cold one) and performs just fine in 2d apps.
