Do you have a specific brand/model of this board? Are you trying to install a PCI or AGP card?

I have to ask how well your system has been running with other video cards? Because if no one has told you yet, SIS is not a very good choice of motherboard chipset. Curious, at what point is your screen going black? During the loading of the OS, during the use of windows or a application? You have to be a little more specific here because it could also be a bad video card needing a RMA here. Meaning the gpu or ram are defective.

Does it have onboard graphics? Make sure you remove the drivers, then disable it in the bios.

Also, install the gart drivers. You need those for SIS boards.

yes m8, it does onboard graphics , can the geforce fx5200 (128MB) be too strong for the sis board ?

thanks
