I just got a Dell M70 laptop loaded with 2GHz Mobile Centrino with 2M cache + NVIDIA Quadro FX Go 1400.

is this equivelent to 6600GT? or beter?

I play BF2 on it with alot of settings on max, but for some reason AOE3 demo does not run well, though I assumed it is a less demanding game. Maybe because it is a demo?

Those cards (Quadro FX Go cards) do they run games as good as equivelent video cards in consumer market (6600GT)?
I am saying this because I heard these cards are more tweaked towards OpenGL (for CAD stuff, as I use it for that) so they LOSE video gaming performance.
is this true? Do they use Shader ver 3.0 to the fullest?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Wow, a declaration of forum death after a whole half-day wait. Your patience amazes me!

Quadro FX Go cards are peer of the Geforce 5x00 generation, worse than the 6x00 generation. A GeForce 6600GT will blow away a Quadro FX Go 1400 for gaming.

See this thread for benchmarks:

I just tried UT2004 on a Precision M70 (same graphics card, 1.6 GHz P-M) last night. It played smoothly and I didn't notice any drops in framerates during single person play. I was even playing at the LCD's native resolution of 1920x1200 (all settings default). The only problem I had was a BSD after closing the game. I updated the graphics drivers from support.dell.com and no longer had that problem.

From what I've read, UT2004 isn't at the bleeding edge of demanding by today's standards but its still used as a benchmark. I didn't use any specific tool to track framerates. My observation that it played smoothly is purely subjective. More particular gamers may disagree.

Update: I tried UT2004 again tonight with all the video settings set to max quality (no aa or af, though) and still found play to be quite enjoyable at native resolution. This card gets my recommendation. Of course, after finishing up I was really glad I had the system on a table instead of my lap. It gets quite hot.
