I have done hours of searching several computer sites, read ton of reviews and benchmarks, and i've yet to find conclusive results that compare the two directly or in enough detail to make a decision. Price is no factor, they are close enough for that to not be an issue.

What i have seen is that they tend to perform about the same up to a certain point. I think that the fillrate of the 6800 takes the lead once you hit a certain resolution, but usually you only see benefits of the 6800 when you have AA turned on/up.

Do I need to be worried about the 6800 crash issue with the NF3 mainboards? I have a DFI lanparty ut350 gb, so is that really a serious issue or just rare?

Does unlocking the extra pipes in the 6800 actually make a big difference and possibly make it what pulls away from the 6600gt?

My target for games is going to be 1152x864 with the AA up as high as possible and all the other settings as high as they can go. Do I really need the extra umph of the 6800 or will it not be a factor at that performance target?

Sorry for all the questions but i cannot find this information anywhere. I am going to be making a buying decision in about 3 weeks(end of month). Thanks in advance for any and all help you guys provide!

6800 is marginally faster box stock. It is definitely faster if it unlocks. I switched from a 6600GT to a 6800nu.

IMO the 6800nu is the better deal and if you check around on different sites and find people that have a 6800nu and see witch one has the best luck of unlocking the extra 4 pipes and extra vertex shader,I know it a gamble witch ever one you chose but some 6800nu has a better chance of unlocking the extra pipes and then yes it will be quite a bit faster the a 6600GT.

Its upto you. its what will you be using.
if you goin to use more than 4xAA then get 6800, if not then get 6600GT. for the res 1152x864, i think both the cards will perform equally.

The vanilla 12 pipe 6800 is faster, without a doubt. Check out these links....

My experience: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=52286

Plus with the 6800, you get HDR,and the triplebuffering option.
