Hello,

I recently installed earth2160 & the demo of age of empires 3 on my computer and I noticed that strange polygons/lines keep appearing randomly on the screen for no reason. I tried disabling/enabling AA & vsync with no luck. I tried 3 different drivers and I have the problem with all of them (xtremg 78.03, dhzp 78.03, dhzp 76.44) (each time I uninstalled the drivers, then cleaned the comp with drivers cleaner in safe mode). Nothing on my computer is overclocked. Here are 2 screenshots :

On the age of empires 3 screenshot we don't see much corrupted textures, because it's hard to take the screenshot when it happens, but usuallly it's much worse.

My config :

ASUS p4p800
P4C 2.6Ghz
2x512 mo DDR PC3200 (Twinmos winbond ch5 @ 2-3-3-6)
Gigabyte geforce 6800gt @ 350/1000 (default) with dhzp 78.03
Windoows XP SP2

Does anyone have an idea where the problem could be coming from ?
Thanks a lot in advance !

How are temperatures under heavy load?

It can reach up to 90 degrees but this is the same with most of gigabyte 6800gt, this model is quite hot. I phoned the support like many gigabyte 6800gt owners but they say it's normal.

90 degree is where I had problems with my BFG. I upgraded the cooler (see sig) and all is great. Only wish I had done it sooner lol.

Yea, I can confirm that, my reference 6800GT can reach 87*C under heavy load, no problem. However, since your getting artifacts.. :(

I tried with a 550W PSU (to replace my 300W) but it didn't help. I tried with 66.93 drivers too, with no success, so it's probably not a drivers issue. I tried forcing pixel & vertex shaders to 1.4/1.1 with no success. I'm really wondering what is the problem :(.

try agp 4x instead of 8x..

also upping the agp voltage in the motherboard bios to 1.6v can help with stability problems.

Yea, artifacts are usually a hardware problem...I'd try to get the card replaced if possible.

To add to the suggestions, try taking off fastwrites.

I have always had some wierd problems in DX games but not OGL. May have traced mine. I overclock my CPU, but have found that the AGP port is not fixed to 66mhz, so it too has been overclocked. Since setting back to standard clocks, i have not seen any problems.... It may help you ?

After trying many bios settings, I finally found what was causing the problem : Performance mode set to "Turbo" in my P4P800 bios. Turnin g this option to auto resolved my problems :D (Even though I've been using this setting for 1.5year !). Anyways, thanks a lot for all your help :D.
