View Full Version : Please Help. 9700pro or NV30???
Hello, I got some money for Xmas. And I was wondering what you would all do? Buy a 9700pro now or wait for an NV 30?
How long will the wait for the NV 30 be? Right now I have a Pentiun4 1.8ghz 768 MB of RDR ram and a GeForce Ti4600.
Thanks......

Here's my guess:
NV30 Ultra version available in 4 to 6 weeks, priced somewhere above $400, and offering a 25% maximum speed improvement over the 9700Pro in some cases, most often between 0% and 10% improvement, with slower performance in a few cases.

Wait for the NV30 to hit store shelves. Holding onto a Ti4600 for another 4-8 weeks isn't going to kill you. If the performance of the NV30 is less than what you expected, then buy a 9700 as its price should (theoretically) have come down.

If you had asked 3-4 months agao, I'd say grab an R9700PRO.
But the NV30 is supposed to really, really come out in a month. This time they mean it...I think;)
The R9700PRO can be found for as little as $230 (refurbishedOEM PRO) already..I imagine it'll be even less when the NV30 hits the shelves...
Unless the performance of the NV30 is unexpectedly 30-50% faster than the R9700, and reviews are glowing, I wouldn't ever consider spending $500 bux on it...
But it's your hard earned $$:)

Considering the NV30 finally is close to coming out, I also say wait.
You have a very strong card. You don't need to upgrade.
I would suggest you wait for r400 coming june-july or nv35 coming late 2003.
Spend your current money on a new 3Ghz cpu.
The real question is, would you notice much of a difference between the two with your current cpu? I dont think you will, you really should spend your money on a new cpu and motheboard, well at least a new cpu. I suggest you go take a look at that article on Toms Hardware using the various video cards with a P4 3GHz and an Athlon2700+(i think it is)

Get a Northwood (maybe a 2.4, should be a nice jump), or hold your cash until the hyperthreaded chips come down a bit. Like everyone said, you can easily wait until the R400/NV35 generation.
i agree with most posts here also, wait is the better thing right now, come on, a 4600 runs fine current games, just skip half a cycle to the september one and get yourself a nice mobo+cpu for now :)

Yes, a tremendous difference.
