Hello, I could use some advice please. I would like to upgrade my video card. I don't plan to go to pci-e for a while so the card needs to be AGP. I use a 21inch monitor, but I only play at 1024x768 resolution *I have a hard time playing at higher resolutions*. I'm not sure which way I should go on this one. I have around 350.00 to spend, but if I don't have to spend it all that would be nice.
While searching, I found someone selling an ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition for 250.00. After visiting ebay this seems like a pretty good price, but i'm not sure if I should go for it or spend some more and get something faster.
any suggestions?
thanks

If it were me, I would use the money to buy a new card from a reputable dealer like EVGA or Newegg. Something like a 6800gt.

agreed. if you don't want a 7800 or 520 because they are so damn expensive get a 6800gt or ultra. at least they support sm 3 unlike ATI's comparible cards.
x800 pe for 250 dollars. I would take that deal now if you don't mind not having sm3.

...and FP16 blending which looks great in AoE III
Personally, I'd go with the 6800GT but if you want to go with an ATI card, the X800 XL is a good one.
Edit: That is, assuming you can find either one for less than $250. $250 seems like a pretty good price for the XT PE. Also, there is a guy selling 2 6800 Ultras in the for sale forum. I think he's selling them for $250 each.

Just a heads up for ya. While checking out some hardware on newegg I came across this refurb BFG 6600GT for 158. I know its not as high end of a card as you want but I'm wondering if at that res you play at if it even makes sense to get such a powerful card. You might be wasting alot of the power. Just a thought. The price certainly is right and might fit your needs.
