Have you guys seen the benchmarks in this article?

What is the deal with the huge increases in performance with 81.26?

wh000t, i will try em now.

Some things aren't being rendered. Thats why you see such a huge increase. The drivers are basically a crippled 80 series. The bugs will be worked out in time.

damn :(

What's the point of even including these drivers in the article if they are obviously crippled and are not drawing shadows in most games....

Man, these drivers suck!!

Install them and run the FEAR SP demo, and just notice the horrible IQ compared to say the 78.03s.... it can be seen right away with the naked eye.

vs a clothed eye? or a magnifying glass? :D ;)

I know people are reporting errors with shadows in BF2/FC etc but this site apparently only saw errors in CPU tests. Don't know what they're doing different or maybe they just had blinders on.

These will be the drivers that match R520XT performance. :D

Well I ran 3dmark05 with these and there were no shadows so thats a pretty huge bug.

A bug?... or maybe another optimization? I hope that they can fix this shadow problem and still retain some of the performance increase.

I have shadows with my system. Maybe they only work correctly for 7800 cards.

Dang that increase is indeed huge if there was no IQ loss .. esp in Doom3!!!!

I'll try to compare screenshots soon but running the timedemo I went from 88 fps to 99fps at 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF. The timedemo goes by to fast to compare IQ but when playing an area that I was recently taking a lot of screenshots, it looked the same to me.

Edit: Initially, I thought the shadows were okay but it appears some shadows are being rendered, some are not.

these drivers are iffy. i wouldn't bother with them.

Hehe... :D

They got me 1000 more in aquamark and nothing more in CSS. I didn't notice any missing shadows, but I wasn't looking for them. I'll play some other games tomorrow and see what happens.

I played F.E.A.R. with these. UNBELIEVABLE performance  . Before I was getting 30fps maxed out without soft shadows, now I get 40+fps, and enabling soft shadows is actually more or less playable (10fps to 20fps :p ).

The IQ is great. NO ERRORS FOR ME in FEAR at all. I could go so far as to say that the IQ is better, but that could just be that I am running smoothly and I can actually enjoy the game in its ful glory.

I will probably be getting the 7800gt verry soon, and hopefully NVIDIA will refine these drivers and make them perform better than 7.xxx and be better IQ. (I can wish, can't I?)

@ adpr 02 - Single Core and 6x00 series GPU with performance increase? Thats what I wanted to hear.

Someone should do a single core + single gpu vs a dual core + single gpu comparison.

And then follow up with SLI on both single and dual core to confirm the improvements.

how do you benchmark fear? It's the only game I have installed right now. Don't ask why.

The Beta MP Demo has a built-in Performance Test, the SP Demo doesn't

Anybody else can confirm what adpr said ?

well, we know for sure these drivers improver performance. No question about it. The question is: Do we sacrifice IQ for it?
The answer is unknown yet. In some games it seems like it. In games like FEAR, the IQ seems better. MAYBE they are still really buggy, and we won't know the answer to this question until a more refined version comes out.
I know one thing though. I am keeping these. FEAR is the only game I play so I don't really care if they suck for 3dmark05 as I don't "PLAY" that game often :) .

did anyone notice if vsync for sli was working in this driver?

Yep F.E.A.R is more smooth on my setup to. No shadow errors. Cant compare FPS just now but it feels like 10+ fps increase with soft shadows.
