Im playing with the 64 bits patch and content at 1680x1050 all setting max
with HDR 7
and I can see that my second 7800 gtx can not come soon enough
its playable in the 30-40 but no where near 60 fps and up.

is it normal?

While SLI does help with HDR in Far Cry, it's not a huge improvement. For example, I still can't play it at 1600x1200 with HDR on.

what kind of frame rate are you getting??????? to be not playable

1600x1200 is really close to 1680*1050

and your cpu is 400mhz faster

True. although i'm using a custom SLI profile that gives a performance boost under HDR mode .. 1600x1200,8xAF isnt smooth yet for me. maybe because i'm using vegetation sprites ratio of 100 all the time.
also i'm quite picky when it comes to framerate .. anything less than 35fps is no good for me.

I just got my SLI rig set up yesterday, and I couldn't believe how low my frames were at 1280x1024 with everything maxed out. 4xAA, 8xAF - I can't see a difference between 8xAF and 16xAF personally - Supersampling transparency AA, Gamma-correct AA ON, all game settings to Very High, and Water to Ultra High. It was running like 20-50fps (not an average)! I set it to 4xAA, 8xAF, Multisample transparency AA, Gamma-correct AA OFF, and all in-game settings to Very High, and now it runs deliciously (30-100+). It only goes to 30 when zoomed in (always seems to slow the game down) and if someone's shooting at me in a large outdoor area. Most of the time it's above 60fps. So my advice is - don't use Supersampling AA or Gamma-correct AA and you should be fine.

As for HDR, I don't really like the way it looks in Far Cry so I never use it.

Did you try all of the different levels of HDR? I personally think it looks beautiful. The colors are so... well colorful :)

Actually, no, I didn't. Which one is it again that everyone recommends? 7? The last time I even tried it was on my 6800GT and it ran so horribly I didn't even bother with it. Maybe I should give it another shot. :)

Thanks, I'm very pleased with it so far! And I LOVE the A8N-SLI Premium, best motherboard I've ever had by far (even if it does get hot)!

Any concensus on whether everyone with SLI (and most of all people with 7800gtx SLI) should switch to AFR in Farcry HDR? Do any other settings need to be changed?

For HDR use the value "6c84801" to gain some boost in performance. otherwise your performance wont take advantage of the second card.

What precisely does "6c84801" mean? Is there any online material that explains what all these codes mean and how to construct them?

Thanks.

Those are AFR2 values with compatability bits , unfortunately there are no explanation as how to use them. we conclude them with some testing by compiling different bits from other game profiles.
nHancer makes that job easier.

This is just a spot check so bear that in mind. I'm loading the Swamp map and just letting it sit there after hitting the spacebar to skip the short cut-scene. I'm also just using Far Cry 1.3.

I got tired of testing everything so if there is a particular setting you want, let me know. The below should give you some idea of what to expect. The default SLI profile doesn't seem to do a lot for me and even seems to hurt performance so using your own SLI profile will probably give you better results. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up but I went through it pretty quickly.

16xAF and HQ forced in the nvidia CP for all tests.

Default SLI Profile, 16x12, HDR 7, 28fps
Default SLI Profile, 16x12, HDR 0, 50fps
