I'm just wondering if I will be able to use fsaa with this card?

Thanks

I tested a 512mb x800xl. The game ran suprisingly well on this card. 1280x1024 with 4xAA and it was playable. This game really like alot of video ram.

What are the clock speeds for the x850 Pro. I'll see if my X800 Pro can run at that speed and see how it goes (unless they changed the number of pipes and stuff for the X850 -- if so, checking on the X800 Pro probably won't tell you much).

Edit: Hmm, just checking at NewEgg they say the core is like 520 and the memory is over 500 also. I'm not sure I can get that high but I'll give a shot. Maybe SH64 can give you a better idea. I think he has a couple of them.

I think you will be able to. Running just an X800 Pro (at stock) at 1024x768 with 4xAA/8xAF and all settings max except for soft-shadows being off, these are my results:

Min: 0, Max: 170, Avg: 37.365

This was with my 2nd system. Of course, there is a lot of hitching if you only have 1 gig of memory and a 256M card but once going through an area so everything is cached (I guess), it runs pretty well. I tried to use 1280x1024 but it didn't give me that option and my LCD doesn't support 1280x960.

Edit: Oh, I forgot to say what I did. I played the demo up until you cross the wooden planks (a little ways past the area with all the shelves and stuff). I used slo-mo during some of the firefight in the shelf area.

Wow I don't get anywhere near that, which is why I'm questioning if I should be able to run with FSAA. I had a 6600GT but upgraded to the 256MB x850 pro hoping I would be able to run FSAA, but so far I'm not having much luck. The x850 Pro has 12 pipes and mine came at 500/500, but I have it at 535/585, and have enough trouble running 2xAA...

With the settings you used I just ran up through the firefight on the planks and got an average of 20....

Mines clocked well over your 12 pipe card yet you have double the frame rate. hmmmm

It's probably your CPU holding you back if you're using the one in your sig.

Sorry both of my Pros are softmodded to XTs (16 pipes) :p

On an X800XT-PE clocked @520/570 i get similar performance to a single 7800GTX in the SP demo. that was with the latest 5.8 cats.
i think 1024x768,4xAA,8xAF + hardshadows or 1024x768,2xAA,8xAF + softshadows is barley playable & BTW 2gb is a must for smooth experiance.

Your Pro would be even slower. so i'd say no AA for you! :p
1024x768,0xAA,4x/8xAF + hardshadows might be suitable for your card.

Well I am, but I forgot to mention I had the CPU settings at the autodetect level(Medium). I'll be getting a 2800 before it is released though.

Does FSAA put an extra burden on the CPU?

My 0xAA scores are ok, even up to 1280, but as soon as a turn on even 2xAA it kills my performance.

The thing is HL2 and Doom 3 are fine with AA. I run 1280 with 6xAA in HL2 and it does not change the framerates in the spots where its CPU bottleneked.

I'll try putting my CPU settings at minimum when I get home, but I doubt that will change things much, since without FSAA my scores are good, which tells me its not a CPU bottleneck. I'm pretty dissapointed with this, considering a similar 12 pipe card with a slower clock outperformes it by nearly 100%.

I know I did reinstall half life 2 after FEAR, and it installed its own version of directx, so maybe that has something to do with it. I'll try reinstalled FEAR to get its own version back on there and see if that help. I already have the latest Catalyst drivers. Any other ideas?

Have you tried setting the Cat AI to advanced? Maybe that will help a little. Another thing that helps with FEAR is 2 gig of RAM. If you're seeing a lot of hitching, that might alleviate that problem.

BTW, did changing the CPU setting to minimum help at all?
