Here's my choice get the evga 7800gtx and asus sli deluxe mobo or go for the evga 7800gt and the mobo and 19" LCD samsung monitor.I have a view sonic 21' crt now so my question is
1.I"m assuming at 1280x960 the gt and gtx are very close
2.Are LCD monitors (I think the model I looked at was the 915b) better for gaming and surfing than crts?

1) Depends what your cpu is. 7800GTX is bottlenecked by cpu alot. You might get virtually identical performance with a GT unless you crank the resolution right up with AA and AF. At 1280x960 the GTX isn't gonna show its potential.

2) Most ppl will say CRT's are better for gaming. For text and surfing howerver TFT's are way better for your eyes. Alot of TFT's are good enuff for gaming these days. They've progressed alot. I'm switching to TFT (Xerox) next payday.

Most LCD's run at 1280x1024. Subtle.

Now that I have had some time with LCDs, first a Samsung at 12ms and now the ~12-16ms widescreen from Dell (12ms gray to gray), honestly, I can't go back to a CRT. The 2005fpw at 1880x1050 with V-Sync and triple buffering, wow. It is clean, best word to describe it. Just make sure you adjust your brightness; most monitors come with in-store settings that are way to bright. Thought about getting a widescreen LCD? If not, the Samsung 913V on sale at Newegg is a killer deal. No DVI, though. Not a big deal at 12x10...

You can't go wrong with either the GT or GTX. I plan to add a second GT when things get a little more demanding, though I am hoping to eek out a bit more performance with rel80 drivers on the dual core.

the nice thing about 1280x1024, is that its a high enough resolution to aviod major jaggies. but the better half of that is with a 7800gt or 7800gtx, you can run a game at 1280x1024 with almost any AA and AF setting you want, and the 7800 is just gonna smile and keep on going.
