I am seriously considering selling my 6800GTs for one 7800GT right now. I was thinking about pocketing the money and using it towards a Physics processor or a dual core cpu. I game mostly at 1280 x 1024 anyway and am tired of heat issues and game configuration issues with SLI. It seems like no one is running dual 6800's now anyway these days. The 2 hesitations I have is (1) I like to tinker and SLI in kind of fun and (2) I wonder if the new 8X.XX drivers coming out will really boost SLI and compatability and maybe I should wait.

My local Best Buy has some BFG 7800GTs in stock with a $50.00 rebate- it's very tempting.

What would you all do?

I would wait to see what NVIDIA releases this holiday season, if anything, before upgrading. Also, ATI is rumored to have something called "R520" in the works. :D

I replaced my 6800GT SLI setup with one 7800GTX and it was faster in BF2 at the settings I use.
I had to get back to SLI though and a few weeks later I bought my second one. Why don't you do the same? You could always get another 7800GT in a month or so...

Heat issues are best solved with watercooling in SLI, although the GTX's I have run less hot than my 6800GTs...

I just replaced 6800U SLI combo with one 7800GTX (will get a second one later), and all is much quieter and problem-free. Also consider that now is a good time to sell 6800GT/U, when you sell them, you get 7800GTX "for free", with same performance, less heat, and latest engine.
