View Full Version : Video Card Question

I own a 2 year old Alienware (P4 3.2, 1.5 GB ram, etc.). Its been freezing up at odd times and in odd ways (first a program won't respond but my mouse does, then another program, finally nothing works). I've run the usual suspects, adware, anti-virus, etc.

Last night I started to update all my drivers, including my video card - ATI 9800 pro 256MB. I unloaded the drivers and then it wouldn't let me reinstall the new drivers (or the old ones for that matter!). It just freezes up after the files unzip and the ATI screen comes up.

So now I'm thinking maybe it's my video card. Before I buy an exact replacement, (I can't afford an upgrade), any thoughts about an equivalent card to try?

Thanks,
AWII

The short quick answer: Try reformatting your HDD/reinstall Windows. Just be sure to back up your data first though...

Also I'd recommend running a system RAM diagnostic tool like Memtest86+, check that your memory isn't failing.
