memory problems

I have 256ram, but only 87 available. My system is PIII 1000mz, 30gig hd. window me. I removed everything from my startup, I now only have av, video. When I start my computer it has problems logging all my programs and I have to restart many times before they all load correctly. I ran av, sypbot, hyjack, etc to make sure nothing is hiding on my system. But I still have the problems. Can anyone help?????

Windows ME is known to not free up memory. Aside from installing another version of windows (2000 or XP) you could try a 3rd party program to free up memory. It's been a while since I needed one so maybe someone here can suggest a few programs?

Does your system have integrated video or an add-in video card? Integrated video sometimes uses system RAM.

yea i have windows xp professional sp2 also...constantly used about 280mb of my RAM even after i close almost all the processes...im not sure of any programs...you should try upgrading to 512 RAM, its not that expensive and very easy 2 install.
