Howdy! I am new here and was hoping for some help!

I am having some troubles installing two video cards in the same system. The computer is a HP xw9300 and the video cards in question is a Quadro 1400 and a Quadro 600. The first is PCIe, the second is PCI.

The goal is to be able to use four LCD monitors at once. The problem is, I can not figure out how to get it working. When booting off of the PCIe slot, the driver does not load correctly for the PCI card. Get this in Device Manager:

The device could not start. (Code 10).

I read that I need to assign an IRQ to the device(which the BIOS does not let me do) or boot of the PCI card, and use the PCIe as the secondary.

So, booting off of the PCI card, Windows sees both cards and loads the drivers properly. However, I can only configure the PCI card in Display Properties and only two monitors work.

Am I missing something? How can I configure the second card? Is Windows XP supposed to simply recognize the second card? Any ideas?

BTW, I am running Windows XP Pro SP2.

I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer!

For Windows & multiple NVIDIA GPUs to work properly, you must set the BIOS so the PCI card is initialized first. Then after you have the NVIDIA drivers installed, within the Display control panel you can set a PCIe card's display as the Primary Display containing the Start Menu.

I have a PCIe system in which this works to have 6 displays,
- 2 DVI on a 6800U PCIe, Start menu on one.
- 2 DVI on a 6800U PCIe.
- 2 VGA on a 5200 PCI, set to initialize first.

I appreciate the help! However I have been all over the place and cannot find an option to set the primary display to the PCIe card. In fact, when I look at Display Properties, I cannot find any mention of the PCIe card. Display Properties only lists the PCI card and the two monitors attached to it.

Can you tell me where to set that option?

Nice video card setup, BTW.

See the attached screen shot for the setting that determines which display has the Start menu. The dialog is much the same for any multi-display NVIDIA configuration on Windows OS.

Cool. But, in order to use that, won't I have to be able to select the PCIe card from the drop down box above that? Unfortunatly, the card does not show up in that box.

I hope I'm missing something...

Urm, do you have two "monitor icons" appearing in the main window for your PCIe card? They should appear if you have two displays connected to that card, and the drivers are installed correctly.

Let me move to my PCIe machine and see if I have any issues that I don't have on this AGP system.

I don't have monitor icons for the PCIe 1400. When I hit the drop down box, only the PCI 600 shows up. In the Device Manager, both cards show up and appear to be working properly. I have loaded the newest drivers. The computer has an nvidia chipset.

Again, thanks for the help!

Problem solved. Moved the PCI card to a 64-bit PCI slot and that fixed it. The PCI card was sharing the same IRQ as the PCIe 1400.

Man, I've been in computers way too long to make such a newbie mistake.

Thanks for the help,
