Anyone seen an artifact like this?

I usually see this on the ground or on this particular rock (which is reused all over the place in the game). Black lines with some other interesting markings.

Running latest nVidia drivers. Game is set to Very High video settings, and is patched to 1.33. Problem does not seem to occur at lower level settings, and I suspect it might be related to lighting which I will mess around with later today.

The artifact is not persistant, in that I can reload the game and it will not be there, or I can look away and look back and it will be gone. Or not. This is unlike a previous problem with a previous 6800GT I RMA'd where there were persistant problems on certain textures which affected all games I played.

Just curious, in the meantime, if anyone has seen this sort of thing in FarCry (or any other game) before.

I've seen it recently. I haven't played FarCry since patch 1.3 and 61.77 drivers, but I reinstalled it a few days ago and patched to 1.33.

On my 6800 GT (at stock speeds and 400/1100) w/drivers 77.77, 78.01, and 78.03, I've seen the artifact you mentioned a few times, but without the wierd markings (ie, just the "shadow lines"). It either appears on the rock or on the ground, but as you said, its not persistent.

All in-game settings maxed, including 4xAA and 8xAF, at both 1280x960 and 1600x1200.
