View Full Version : ATI having bad yields at TSMC, turns to UMC?

However, the sources also indicated that low yield rates at TSMC has given UMC an opportunity to win 90nm orders from ATI.
Seems more and more bad news for ATI if even RV515 is having low yields. :p

I think those are the Crossfire cards... notice how the code names are slighty different?
Also the reported yields at TSMC were good?
So as I see it..
TSMC = Regular... UMC = Crossfire?
Only difference between Crossfire and Non-crossfire is the extra chip on the master card as far as I know. I don't think ATI had time to design what the extra chip does into the R(V)5x0 series.
Assuming that's correct, the Crossfire VPU wouldn't be more difficult to make than the non-Crossfire.

Agreed. I think that the "1" is being used to identify the GPU as being manufactured at a different plant. The Crossfire option is not integrated into the GPU like nVidias 6800/7800 series GPU.
Most likley with Ati's tight window to get products out they need an other partner to help them get as many cards out as possible.
