I just noticed all the rebates being offered on alot of 7800gts and 7800gtx cards.

You can now get them for around $320 and $420 after rebates.

I wonder if a new card is on it's way out for the ATI R520 launch or if this is just to put more pressure on ATI at launch.

Guess we will know next week.

I dout it, Nvidia said that the 7800GTX is their new top of the line. The only new cards they plan to release are the low end budget cards now. They have SLi to fight the R520 (if its all that its cracked up to be).

Remember, Nvidia doesn't make the rebates. The cards are selling cheap because of the supply. Last round they were so hard to come by that retailers could mark up the price due to the low availablity and many people still bought them, now everyone has them... and their selling like hot cakes.

I believe I read somewhere (here?) that nVidia is sending new G7x-based 90nm cores to TSMC around the end of the year. We might see a refresh part in the late winter/early spring timeframe.

edit: It's the link in this thread (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=57197):

Rival Nvidia is gearing up to produce in volume a 90nm G7X graphics chip at TSMC between the end of this year and early 2006, according to industry sources. Nvidia’s current flagship GeForce 7800 GTX (G70), which was built using a 0.11-micron process at TSMC, hit the market in June.

If it IS a refresh, I hope it's at least a worthwhile one...like maybe another 4 vertex units with a core above 500MHz and maybe 512MB RAM.

Hell, maybe that newfangled "512-bit internal bus" too. :p

Yeah, I guess. I don't really care to be honest. Frankly my 7800 GTXs will keep me happy for quite a long time, and I'm really sick of buying new hardware. I've spent over 3 grand on this setup all in all, due to changing out motherboards, cooling, monitors, etc. :p

If NVIDIA follows a pattern, the new 90nm part will be a mid-level GPU with a lower number of pipes. Think 6600GT...

If rumors about a competitive X1300 AGP with 512MB are to be believed, you can bet we'll see something similar from NVidia, too.

As for the high end market, I don't think we will see something until the spring refreshes.

Price rebates may be due to the heat coming from the new ATi line or by the yields getting better with time.

Yeah, good point. That's a more likely scenario.

From the looks of it nVidia won't need to release another card to match the X1800XT. I would like to see a midrange card though. Something that supports TAA.

I just wish TAA worked a little better. It has no effect in some games, such as Call of Duty. As a matter of fact, I only use it in Source engine games as I see no discernable benefit in other games.

edit: Whoops, and Far Cry - though MSTAA looks better than SSTAA, and it runs better too.

Try it in Call of Duty 2. It works very nicely there as well. It mainly seems to work in D3D games. In opengl, I'm not so sure.

Edit: A good place to check, is the gate right after you get off the truck at the beginning of the game. It smooths the jaggies right out.

ALL I NEED IS A MB AND A FEW GCS!!!

Alas, I sit and wait for next week. :(

Dude that's just some guy on a forum throwing out his random thoughts. The guy provided no links or any sort of information that indicated what he stated was anything more than an invention of his own mind. I can do that too, but it doesn't make it official or valid in any way. Here, watch:

G71 ULTRA 128p 1050/3000 512/1024 24VS
G71 GT 96p 950/2600 512/1024 18VS
G71 24p 875/2400 512/512 16VS
These are coming out in December! The yields are great! And stuff!
