I just did a fresh install of Windows XP on my system and I remembered how tired I was of the amount of resources that Norton antivirus uses up on my system.
I was wondering which antivirus do you have or at least which one would you recommend?

Mcaffe?

AVG?

Avast?

some other?

I don't use any AV software on my personal machines.

On my bench machines I use for cleaning up customers virus problems I use Kaspersky, Norton and AVG.

Kaspersky is probably the best one, it usually finds a lot more stuff than Norton, but Norton occasionally catches 1 or 2 things Kaspersky doesn't.

I'm a beta tester for Trend Micro the new 2006 version looks realy nice

I would wait for a month and get that

I'va always used PC-Cillin and it works like a charm and does not slow your pc down.

I have been using Avast recently since I dual boot with XP64 and it works for both installs.I have not had any problems with it but then again I do not leave it constantly running,I just run an update and scan every couple of nights.

PC-Cillin slowed mine down a little, so I got rid of it.

Ive been using Avast Pro for a while now and love it... :)

NOD32 is the best. Can't believe it was forgotten thus far.

A vote for NOD32 for me too. Eset really need to get the marketing machine going... Not nearly enough people (people that really need a decent virus program) know about NOD32.

I'm new to NOD32, but when I was researching most reviews said it was the best by a 'merican mile.

I had tried NOD32 installed on Windows XP x64 along with Tiny 64 Firewall, lots of times I noticed that Tiny 64 alerted me here was activity from a file called office.exe, it was a small program just pop up and I suspected it was a virus. Too bad NOD32 failed to detected and removed it. I also tried Norton Corporate Anti-Virus to detect it but was surprised it failed to detected it beause Corporate was based on much older engine. I rebooted PC and went back to XP SP2 to use Norton Internet Security 2005, scanned it, detected office.exe virus and removed it.

Symantec done excellent job with NIS 2005, it was much improved and more secured, this year my NIS 2005 detected and removed 16 viruses and the firewall is amazed 100% protected and I had virtual none of hackers attacks, NIS 2005 only used near 80Mb of memory resources, it very much simply to use the program. I found NOD32 wasn't worked very well to detect viruses. Symantec will bring proper 64 bit support for Anti-Virus in a few months, I hope it will include with NIS 2006. As for 64 bit firewall I am still waiting for 64 bit Zone Alarm but it still in development, I found Tiny 64 impossible to handle, it has tons and tons of configurations and buttons. :banghead:

I like NOD32 and Panda Titanium 2005. Panda's product is really nice and is probably the most advanced technology available for AV software. Personally, I am using Symantec Corporate Client 3.0 because a friend had a multi user license pack with 1 left and gave it to me. The firewall is very nice, but I am not so convinced about the AV portion.

Another vote for kaspersky. Has a very small memory footprint as well.

I refuse to believe two people in this thread actually recommended Norton. Even Leo on G4's Call For Help hates it so you know it's on the out and out.

aside from the bloat (nonissue in the corporate edition), a finely tuned norton is rather hard to beat.
That said, kaspersky and mcafee slow to a crawl when opening a directory with lots of compressed archives. nod32 is the fastest in this regard. symantec corporate is a pretty good about this too; willing to bet norton is as well.

the later versions of norton uses alot of resources (2004+). Im using internet security 2003 and its great. Fast, stable, secure, and uses hardly any resources.

Ive tried both 04 & 05, and they were very good too but just used too much system resources.

ive also tried pc cillin 03 & 05, avg. But out of them all im most happy with norton internet security 03.
