90% in fear?
I doubt it though

Me too. Very rough calculation: # of pipes x clock speed - x1800xt should end up with nearly the same fillrate, but 25% higher bandwidth. I can't see how that can give a 90% increase in FEAR frames, even at completely GPU limited res/AA.

It must be true, coming from the inquirer and all. Just ask Athlon. He seems to trust them. :p

Same texel, but not the same pixel fill.

40-90%? Roflmao. Another ridiculous claim from the inquirer.

What do you calculate for texel and pixel fillrates of 625MHz 16-pipe x1800xt and 430MHz 24-pipe 7800gtx?

whats a top of the line gtx siting at right now with an fx57?

This is odd.

How can you be 90% faster in FEAR, 40% faster in BF2, 25% faster in FarCry and then come out "very tight" in Half-Life 2, which is supposed to run really well on ATI hardware.

I guess it's possible that R520 is so different from R3x0 and R4x0 that Half Life 2 doesn't benefit as much from ATI's "new architecture", but ATI should be able to play Half Life 2 better if it's getting 90%, 40% and 25% better performance than GTX in these other games. Doesn't add up in my mind.

From Here (http://www.theinq.com/?article=26617)
ATI will beat Geforce 7800GTX by as much as ninety per cent in the Fear Demo. ATI claims it will end up almost forty per cent faster in Battlefield 2, while it will top Nvidia's fastest card as much as twentyfive per cent in Far Cry.

ATI hasn't mentioned Half Life 2 but we kind of expected that these results would be very tight. µ

Believe it when I see the scores.

My box just got 8352 3dmarks with a single 7800gtx.

fear = tommorow = another words "we are better tommorow"
bf2= today = another words " we are better today"
farcry= yesterday = another words " who gives a flying ****.... thats yesterdays news" :D

Isn't ati claiming the current x850xt is like 85% faster than the 6800ultra?

Well, the 7800GTX has 6880mps/10320mts rates, due to the 16 ROPs. The X1800XT has 10000mps/10000mts rates. That doesn't say much though, remember how the X800XT-PE had a massive fillrate advantage over the 6800U (6400vs8320) and the cards were still very close.

Take a look at the new architectural improvements(Ultra-threading dispatch processor, vertex engine).Pipes and fillrate are not everything.

Yeah i am pretty sure Ultra-threading will be a big thing in demanding pixel shading programs. As for 3DMark score i can see that happening anyway. 8x 430MHz = 3440 vetexes Vs ATi's 8x 625MHz = 5000 vertexes. As 3D mark is very vertex limited it should really come out on top.

I'm sorry but 90% claims in fear are hilarious. Reminds me of the old school 200% perfomance increase claims.

Maybe its on 2048x1536 & 4xAA with X1800XT getting 19fps and 7800GTX 10fps.
Anyway I'll wait for some official numbers but the new architecture does look promising. :)

seems to have 16TMU's and 16 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders. Kinda looks like 16x2 with multiple passes which would be where the Ultra threading engine will come into play.

On paper it looks good.... but so did the nv30 :p

lol. 90% lead in the most demanding game right now.

I understand the 512MB VRAM would help in FEAR , but 90% seems way to high!!
as for the 3dmark score it would be good if true.

It's kinda funny that everybody accepts the figures presented in the X1800 XT benchmarks thread saying 'disappointing', 'poor ati', 'looks a little weak' etc but when you read the opposite everyone says noway and BS because of inq....

Its only 3 more days guys, sit back and pray that the X1800 lives up to the hype, I sure want them to pull a can of whoop ass on Nvidia so GTX prices drop madly and I can afford another. :)

And using highest quality settings on both cards.. that is.. 6xaa on ATI vs 8xS in Nvidia. ATi have done this in the past with their magical performance numbers ;)
