Hello...

As title says. I have already tried:

1. PowerDVD6 Deluxe (playback was ugly and the colors were just wrong...)
2. Windows Media Player 10 + Latest nV PureVideo Decoder (Playback was much better - better colors and quality, sharpness is higher also - but still not what I expect from a DVD like Terminator 3. And I don't know why, but WMP control panel still says Software Acceleration... Weird).

Using AGP 6800GT.

Thx in advance.

Regards,

powerdvd is the best imo... never noticed a problem with it...

I use PowerDVD and it looks perfect... maybe you have a setting messed up?

And I think your problem with the Terminator 3 DVD is the source material... that movie will never look good, because it sucks ;).

But just try to change some of your video options in Power DVD...

PowerDVD works fine for me too.

I use VLC for general videos but that can play DVD too.

Like the features it has and it is lightwieght. Also is an all-in-one media player like MPC.

If it's still bad, buy yourself a cheap, progressive scan set top player. Even the $40-50 ones you can buy at Best Buy or Circuit City have pretty decent image quality.

If you want to spend a little more, you can buy a unit that will play DivX and XviD movies. :)

I still use NVDVD. It allows for SPDIF pass-through and true full-screen with proper brightness adjument to prevent the letterbox shadow.

And one thing I noticed today is that WMP does not allow the movie to go full-screen on the widescreen monitor. Not sure what that is about.

Just go to Tools/Options/Devices and click on display and set the aspect ratio to 0.75 or 1.33 depending on yer display and it should work fine.

Hmm...

So I might try PowerDVD again.. Can someone post his settings?

These are the options I've thought of:
- WMP + Purevideo
- VLC + Purevideo
- PowerDVD6 Deluxe (retry)

Anything else?

Thanks!

(And BTW, Mr.Hunt, I got T3 only for the sake of testing.. When I want to watch a quality film I always turn to my classic library :D)

No dice. That is for playback on displays with non-square pixels, like 1024x1024 plasmas.

Somewhere I read a professional review comparing PowerDVD, WinDVD, and the PureVideo decoder and they said the PureVideo decoder has by far the best image quality if setup right. I'll try to find it later.
