Yep, X1800XT is forcing nvidia to stop milking the 256mb cards. Its nice to know for a fact that a 512mb 7800GTX is on the way though. Thanks for the link.

Hmm, the FEAR comment sounds promising also.

I have to admit, I'm surprised they interviewed a nvidia guy and they didn't really press him like I thought they would.

I only wish the 512mb GTX would have the same highspeed memory as the R520,

Yeah its time for a 512MB 7800 .. most of the latest games/demos shows importance for it.

On behalf of all GTX owners, let me be the first to say "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU INTRODUCE THE 512MB CARD FROM THE START?"

To make you buy the same card again perhaps ?
serioulsy i agree with you .. it should've been out there since the lanuch not after we shelled out for 2 of them! i think that makes all 256MB GTX owners stuck with thier cards without the ability to play the latest games decently as many of them require more than just 256MB.

users should not be blamed for this as we dont know how the next step in the PC games engines will be like , however nVIDIA DO know because they have to contact the game devs & co-op with them on thier projects.

I'll give anyone owning 256MB SLI 7800GTXs that want to go up to 512MB cards $100 for the pair. :)

This is old news. Since the X1800 XT will have a 512MB version, Nvidia decided to follow suit. ATI and Nvidia will keep going back and forth. You really don't need a 512 MB video card today, but I'm sure there will be games some day that will take advantage of the 512MB of video RAM. Ready for a 1GB video card?

a 1GB video card? I dont think they should even think about that until they hopefully release 7600's etc. and gaming technology increases. i think SLi with a 7800GTX is quite enoguh right now, especially with dual core amd 4400+...

god, now the 6 series is gonig to look like crap i suppose...eh im happy enough with a single 6600 256mb as it is...

My 6800GT OC'ed to Ultra has yet to have any game stop it in its tracks with full settings... and im not even 64bit yet... lol. Tweaking and getting everything to run in sync can do a lot for a system :D Good to know a 512mb version of the 7800 is coming out tho.. all the more reason to wait :p

Its still a great card though man. Plus the 512mb version will cost quite a bit more and isn't too necessary ATM. Just enjoy your new card. :D

More and More I am impressed with the NVIDIA interviews.

I've seen at least one interview with someone from ATI where the guy sounded like he had no clue whatsoever. Am I missing out on all the interviews where this is happening to NVIDIA or does this just not happen?

Seems like when NVIDIA sends someone out they know their stuff.

Try running fear with softshadows on. Your 6800gt will certainly be stopped in its tracks.

They look more like the shadows you see in real life. Go outside and look at your shadow, it isn't solid like the ones you find in Doom 3.

IMO FEARs softshadows look much better than CoR's. In CoR it just looks like someone applied a blur filter. FEAR's blend in with the texture much much better. Its really realistic.

Or check out the soft shadows when they are reflected onto glass, it's stunning.
Give it a couple of years and there will be the hardware to run it with everything maxed out, and even then its going to be gorgeous to look at.
Doom 3 never really impressed me that much to be totally honest, this does.

I guess "quite a bit" is relative, but I think you are looking at the history of the 6800 256mb vs 512mb versions.
I mean look ATI is only chargin $50 more for their 512mb XT and the memory on that sucka is more expensive than the mem the GTX uses...

Nvidia based 512mb cards should have more margin, therefore they will be able to reduce price to match ATI's offering. I expect MSRP of $550 and availability at $500 within the first few weeks.
