View Full Version : SuSE 8.1 SMP kernel and Nvidia kernel driver

Hi there!

I've just installed a brand new SuSE 8.1 but when trying to install the kernel driver I see that while MDK and RedHat both have SMP version of the kernel drivers, SuSE 8.1 lacks them. Any other kernel drivers won't work (either it's a different kernel version o it's not SMP).

Has anybody solved this problem already?
I've been surfing for old kernel drivers versions and SuSE doesn't have SMP-supported files!

Thanks in advance.

I also tried to compile the src.rpm provided with the kernel sources but it seems that the compilation didn't use SMP.
So I make menuconfig and activate SMP option and recompile...

Same results when trying to insmod nvidia

Different kernel versions (SMP vs Non-SMP)

Thanks

I can't use Yast2 online update because I can't connect to the Internet (buggy usb adsl modem).

But, as long as I'm concerned, SuSE Yast2 online update would download the same files

żor not?

Note: this is completely unsupported, so please don't complain to SuSE if something breaks when you try the following.

You can try ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next/

Try building a SMP kernel using the sources there and then compiling the Nvidia drivers against it.

As a side note, I have a couple SMP machines running these kernels, and they're humming along merrily.

Thank you for the answer but
What does you kernel have extra?
I mean, is just a matter of a correc .config or are we dealing with weird sources issues?

Best regards
