To anyone that knows me from Hardforum, knows that I don't believe the Bible is anywhere near 100% true. There is alot of corruption and alot of "government" in the Bible that I don't believe was intended to be there. Anyway its nice to see someone else has somewhat the same views as I do. Normally when I tell people I am religious but don't believe the Bible is accurate... it kind of throws them off. Whats everyones thoughts on this topic?
My response to this article is who is to say what is real and what is fake?
Of course its not true.. none of it is!
Well thats my thoughts anyway.

They say it's not true to approve of the lifestyles they want to lead. Not the majority, but a small fraction of them. This is sad that it had to make the headlines like this.
By the way, they will find out how tru it is when they meet the Main Author of the Bible.

Should have been started there anyway.

Too true... People too often twist the words of the Bible to try to fit what they want to do.
First off the Chatholic church does not say this. Only a few bishops in England are saying this. Secondly the conflicting two accouts in Genisis do not conflict. We have been over this. It is only a casual look at the bible by those with sole intentions to discredit the bible based on twisted view of the scriputures that claim this.
The so-called Jewish curse is a myth dreampt up by church leaders and used for politcal control over the people. It isn't there. It is a false reading of the scripture. It was the response from those people at that time to Pilot's act of washing his hands of the situation. There isn't any Jewish curse. We are all equally guilty of Jesus' death. It is our sin that he died for.
I get tired people's bubble gum look at the bible and think they found a flaw. Yet when you show them the evidence they still deny it and in fact they get upset or say that is your point of view. Well 2000 years of teaching tells us what the truth is.
Of course its not true.. none of it is!
This is a factually false statement. You can agree or disagree wither there is a God or not but the events in the bible have been proven through acheology.

I totally agree. You got people all over the world trying to prove that it's not true, when in turn they are proving the opposite--that it is emphatically true.
There are teaching in the Catholic church that are not in the bible such as meat on Fridays, the rosery and the Marianism. They are extra teachings the Catholic church uses. The rosery and the Marianism are actualy forbidin in the bible and the fish on Friday was a respons to the poor fishing economy at that time and used to help the fishermen out. It has no biblical basis. It is called theological legalism.

UDawg, Mr. Hunt:
We can argue this point until we are blue in the face, but people that want to live their lifestyle will still have their excuses. Romans 1:28 says:
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
I know that this quote has probably ticked some people off here, but it's too true. In fact, I know that my sig has made people email me and ask me to delete it, but I'm not...because it's the truth.
I've decided that I will not debate in this thread, because this is a circular argument.
AHAHAHA people actually wanted you to delete your sig? AHAHAHAHA how weak is a person's constitution that they are offended by something they don't believe in to begin with? BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!1

The bible is made up of parable and metaphor. to say every word is true may show great faith but great naivety. The bible was designed to teach to make people think not to make them sheep. Most religions texts are like this.
The bible as a book has an interesting history, and has had many revisions, much being lost and much being changed. For most of its history it was oral after all. Large sections of the old testament for example use semarian and Babylonian myths with differing chracters and obviously just one god rather than many but their stories are essentially the same.
The point being that the bible can be seen as an aid for people to get closer to god, if you happen to belive in that or need it. It is not a 100% accurate book.
Oh and btw I am an archaeologist. The archaeology proves towns and cities existed, certain events in the old testament occurred. It gets much murkier for the new testament as roman archaeology proves nothing and the mass of documentary evidence on this subject is the new testament itself. However there is no proof as such of wither the new or old testament as a whole is true. Only proof that certain people and places existed., though on occasion the old testament has the time line wrong according to the acrhaeology. i.e kings living in the same period when they had been dead for centuries.
By the way, they will find out how tru it is when they meet the Main Author of the Bible.

i believe in God and Jesus, and i believe that the Bible does tell the truth but not entirely, as its all based on interpretation. the only people that can interpret the book for what it is are those who wrote it. since its original creation has been subject to tranlsation and interpretation, its impossible to know what was really in it.
i dont believe the Bible should be taken as an end-all way to live. its merely guidelines that teaches us about God, Jesus, and how to treat our neighbors.
and DOC, people asking you to delete your sig?? HA screw them. this is america, and if they have a problem with it, then dont read it. the same freedoms that allow you to put it there are the same freedoms that they take for granted. and taking God out of the pledge of allegiance and what not? screw that too. face the facts: the founders of this country were Christians, who believed in God and founded the country with the principles that they believe God would have wanted (equality, justice, etc.... but slavery was a mistake that thankfully has been fixed). so if you have a problem, i say ignore it, or leave. i know a lot of people will disagree, but its the same way i feel about people who refuse to learn english. my ancestors had to learn it, im sure you can too.
sorry to rant.....
anyways, there is some truth in the Bible stories however. isnt it strange how many of the cultures all over the world have a flood story?
Well 2000 years of teaching tells us what the truth is.
This is a total logical Fallacy. Do you still go by 2000 year old Physics knowledge?
Personally I still think the world is flat...

The Bible is simultaneously a historical document and a book of myths (used here in the academic sense of myth, not a value judgement). Most non-myth based historical claims have been backed up by archaeological finds, particularly New Testament stories, which is not all that surprising. I personally reject the myth aspect, but have no problem accepting much of the non-myth based history.

Freedom of speech and religion makes the bible obsolete over time.

You misunderstood the point of my post. I was saying that there is a particular why in which the bible has been taught for 2000 years and that people come up with different ways to twist it into what they want. In other words there is the original way it has been taught and the way those who want to prove it wrong use it. Their way never goes by the original teachings. So your post is way off base and is oozing with sarcasm. That's ok, I'm fine with your insecurity of my beliefs. :D

To back up a little of what UDawg has said here...those Catholic priests said that, to appease the muslims in England...in which 63% of England is Islam/Muslim. Christianity in England is a minority

If that's true that's just sad. I'd fully support a genocide in that case. England should be for...Englishmen for the majority.

People too often twist the words of the Bible to try to fit what they want to do.Particularly those who support it. It's very tiresome. People of all flavors twist it to mean whatever the hell they want it to, except for people truly looking for the facts.

???????
I would love to see what data you are using for this.
Last I saw Christianity was way ahead of islam unless this is something from an alternate reality.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/uk_rel.htm
For example. As with a number of other sites, that site also uses census numbers from 2001.
A more official link.
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/profiles/commentaries/ethnicity.asp#religion
Unless a several million christians died since 2001 or several million converted to islam since then, I simply can't see how your numbers are valid.

The oral tradition faithfully passed along the information across all those generations before it was written.
How can this be possible? Easy, it was passed through song.
How many songs can you sing verbatum, and yet these songs mean nothing to you?
The song of the Jewish Faith was taught by those who knew it, to those who would learn. It was important, so it was learned perfectly. It was in song, which made it easy to learn and remember.
The Dead Sea Scrolls have confirmed the accurracy of what we know.
New translations are coming out as we learn more about the old languages and how they relate to the new languages. Not only that, but languages change continuously. One major example in english is gay. At one time, it meant happy. A verse might have read "A gay man is pleasing to the Lord" and today we would cry out that means God approves of homosexuality. It definately would not, as gay used to mean joyous.
On the original topic, the Catholic Church left most of the teachings of the Bible long ago, and created their own in its stead. I am not sure how much longer they will actually teach the salvation message...

Not in population but number of Mosques/churches. I forget where I read it, but I do recall Muslims buying old churches, leveling the church and building a mosque on top of it, as a mockery. Anglican is the most in population.
I asked my brother, and he said it was on the CBS evening news when they arrested that Muslim cleric with no arms, they just mentioned that little trivia.
I cant find it, I have 56k and it's taking forever...nevermind, my brother has made me look foolish. Now take it with a grain of salt
I did find this little tidbit
