I'm looking to buy a 24" CRT that supports 2048x1536@85Hz.

Do you guys know of any brand names that I can have a look at?

the only 24in CRT's I am aware of are widescreen... "theoretically you could display that res, but it would be stretched."

Yeah, my 24" SUN is one of those 16:10 monitors. Too bad that rez runs at 60Hz though.

What about that sony? The FW900 or something?

I have the 24" FW900 , It does 2048x1536 but only at 75hz, as mentioned above its a 16:10 monitor so that res would have black bars on the sides as well unless you manualy stretch the screen, You can run 2048x1280@85hz wich is a proper 16:10 res. The monitors max resolution is 2304x1440@80hz but that resolution doesnt even show up in display properties for me (6800 GT / latest forceware) ,not that I'd want to run it that high anyhow..I'm currently running it at 1920x1200 desktop res.

The F520 is still one of the best Trinitron CRTs ever made. It's a shame that Sony abandon the CRT market. You should be proud to be one of the few that own that great monitor.

The uni I goto has a bundle of F520 that they have replaced with giant Dell LCDs. I'm trying to find out when they are gonna "dump" them and how I could get a hold of one.

They ebay seller I bought my FW900 from still has some available if you don't mind paying $400 shipped. He has sold many of these so far (not sure where he's getting them all!) all with positive feedback , The unit I received is in excellent condition with awesome Geometry ,Convergence and Focus. Pretty good deal considering they used to retail for $2,300 new.

Can view his latest auction here (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-TRINITRON-24-CRT-MONITOR-GDM-FW900_W0QQitemZ8706678184QQcategoryZ99235QQssPageN ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

I wouldn't go for that resolution on a monitor that big. Odds are its grill pitch will not be sharp enough for displaying that resolution with any satisfaction. Unless you spend upwards of $3,000 or something.
