Do CPU fans have to connect to the motherboard, ro can i simply connect it to one of the power supply connectors? Cuz my fan is shiiiiit and if you put a Dell fan connected to the motherboard, you'll get an error message every time u boot...

Yes, you can using a 3 to 4-pin adapter for connecting to one of the psu lines. You will not be able to get a rpm reading unless you have a two-wire, 3-pin connector from the adapter for connecting to the cpu connection on the motherboard.

yeah it will work (unless you want to read the rpm speed). I have my cpu fan connected to a fan controller.

Little off topic but i found this to be a little wierd. I have a EPoX 9NDA3J and found that when I connect my cpu fan to the cpu pin in the mobo it runs @ 2900+ rpm and when I connect it to the power pin it runs @ 3100+. wtf is going on there?
