So I've been out of the loop for some time, I joined the Marines early in the year and haven't hardly touched a computer since. Any suggestions on what a good mid-range system consists of? Looking for suggestions on best buys as far as mother boards cpu's and ram is concerned. Thanks!

well...whats are you looknig at spending? Gigabyte and MSI etc. make pretty good boards...OCZ makes good RAM for p[erformance, but isnt good for overclocking. crucial ballistix is good too. CPUs? Go with amd or a really powerful Intel, but probably AMD , youll get twice the performance. Get like a single or dual 4400+ or something cheaper like a 3500+ Venice and OC it. They'll give you 10-30 bucks off a motherboard or case if you buy that processor. the 7800GTX and GT are the new graphics cards around. Not sure if you know about SLi? LoL you can have dual 6600's/6800's/7800's now (ex: 2 7800GTX 256mb)
order off newegg :). antec lanboy's are nice cases. A lot of stuff out now. ATi is coming out with a new card real soon, too, its kinda like the 7800GTX

good luck

EDIT: Didn't see mid-ranged.

Something mid range would be like this, and still kick pretty good ass:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Gigabyte nForce 4 Motherboard
(if you buy that processor on AMD, like i said before, theyl lgive u 10 bukcs or so off that mobo)
2GB Corsair PC 3200 Dual Channel 4x512mb
MSI/BFG/PNY/more-- GeForce 6600 256mb/GeForce 6800 128mb
Antec TruePower or SmartPower 400W PSU
Antec SuperLanboy Case or something different like Lian Li and stuff
Get a side window on it for a 80mm or 120mm quiet fan, and a couple more for inside

and your good 2 go

of course a soundcard and other accesories too. I like my dell monitor and logitech headphones and my lil cheap dell microsoft optic mouse is fine enoguh 4 me...

That's high end. People in this forum seem to have money growing from their ass.

Athlon 64 3200+, 1GB of DDR 400 ram.

3200+ at $187 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80701-5)

1GB Dual Channel DDR 400 kit $92.50 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85002-3)

zipzoomfly also has a large selection of motherboards, best of all, free shipping. I have ordered from them 3 times, with great response time and quick delivery. :D
